STRENGHTS: Where to begin? Where do they end? Great stamina, wonderful vision, cracking shot, awesome pace, superb tackler, total dedication and whole-hearted competitor. Just the perfect modern footballer, and getting better all the time. One aspect we're missing out on: on reviewing recent season videos, I noticed how many goals he headed from Gary Mac's free-kicks and corners before Gerrard started taking them himself; with his height and ability in the air, we could do with finding someone else to take them as well as he does (which Danny Murphy started doing, but was left out for Diouf for much of the season). Thrived under the pressure of being Liverpool captain - amazing for one so young.

WEAKNESSES: Um... Um... Left foot isn't the greatest. Used to be guilty of rash - and often ugly - tackles, but only got two bookings, and only one of those was for a foul.

VERDICT: The most complete footballer ever to play for Liverpool; not quite up to Dalglish's standards as the best-ever, but able to do more things well than even King Kenny; just doesn't have the experience yet. Never has a Liverpool player played so much better than his teammates during a season; others contributed, but Gerrard was carrying the team for much of it. He is the kind of player you build your side around. It's just a shame as we can't clone him, as he is a wonderful full-back and right-sided midfielder too. Thankfully he wants to achieve success at Liverpool and like Michael Owen, will only look elsewhere as a final measure.

GOD BLESS YOU STEVEN GERRARD!

Amen

Surely having great vision could be described as 'natural talent'?

I beg to differ about natural ability, Stu.

I guess that theoretically most skills can be learned and honed by most people.

However, some people seem to have a more natural aptitude for sport and scientific studies have already documented this, such as good 20/20 vision (which not everyone has), excellent hand eye coordination (again, most people have average to poor abilities here), ambidexterity, balance etc.

People like Zidanne obviously needed coaching and guidance as they grew up and the likes of Beckham honed his skills through years of repetition and practice, but if the sole criteria alone for competence in football was sheer hard work and decent training then the likes of Lee Carsley, Robbie Savage and Ian Pearce would be lining out in Champions League Finals.

No thats not true.

Those players show great determination on the pitch. That doesn't mean they have a great desire to improve everything about there game and improve certain attributes.

You say its about natural ability then? So what is natural ability?

Are you suggesting diet doesn't effect growth, intelligence, vision etc? Because i beg to differ it does.

If you get a person who has a bad diet from birth, and one who has a superb diet, one is bound to be more able when it comes to sport... is that natural ability?

The answer is no. I supose you could say its nature taking its course, but its also manufactured. I'm a "naturally fit" lad. But thats been because of the excersise i've done growing up, had i not done the excercise i wouldn't be fit now.

Its the same with footballers.

All these tricks, flicks and ******. I can hardly do any of em. One of me mates Jacko, brilliant at them, flicks, tricks, technique. He practises all the time. I tried and couldn't do them, i lost interest after 5 mins. Had i had the dedication to carry on i'm sure i could have been as good as him. You ask any of our group of mates who's the better footballer out of us two tho. :;):

Either that or they're practising alot more from a young age and playing bare foot with a ball that doesn't bounce.

Another point to prove what i'm saying possibly? How many Brazilian players have made it successfully over here?

While most wipe the floor technically with our players when do you ever see Tony Adams and Sol Campbell type centre halfs?

If you want to improve technique people thing you should play with a hard football. WRONG!!! play with something that doesn't bounce of a ball filled with foam. This way it stays on the floor and isn't bouncing around all the time and encourages touch, skill and accurate passing as apose to hoof's. :)

Never. Is that why Brasil is the most successsful international side ? Keep 'em coming Stu I'm learning here.So far I've got to send my kid to live in a slum in Brasil (for the balanced diet) play 10 hours a day with a ball that don't bounce (barefoot on the beach) and encourage him never to play in the premiership.
I'm already thinking of a cool name for him ,pity Pele, Zico and Deco have been used what dya think of "Zeppo"  :D  :D  :D
