Liverpool vs reading - Carling cup 3rd round

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby red37 » Tue Oct 24, 2006 4:13 am

this is the next game right here. the dour aftermath of 'Black Sunday' has been analysed, debated, dissected and pondered. nothing is going to change the result. nothing is going to make it more pallatable.  now is the chance for the team to gain some momentum from a season lacking in direction, albeit via a competition thats been much maligned over recent times... 'mickey mouse' it maybe...but i see it more as an opportunity to settle the ship and get some confidence into those players who need a kick up the ar5e.

the humiliation of last years exit at this stage must surely serve to motivate the team on wednesday night. and there is no room for complacency or underestimation here. if there is, we'll be out. Reading arent coming here to lie down and allow us to experiment or throw in a shed load of reserves...this could be a decent platform to build on for the Villa game.

lets see Rafa use it as that.

im not even going to attempt a preferred line-up. lets just hope any changes are kept to a bare minimum. and a solid, effective plan is laid for the players to follow... ie a win. Fwiw id love to see Anderson and Paletta involved at some stage..and if fit, some bloke called Fowler might be useful. as for the rest - stick to the lads that will be in action on satdy.

BTW this game isnt on the telly.

This is the General Chat forum.

Numpty.

:D

I hope we put a strong team out and get some sort of fluidity in the side.

If we can get an early goal, our tails will be up and Reading had better brace themselves for the mother of all backlashes.

I think Gerrard is playing bad because hes sexually frustrated due to his recent problems. I therefore nominate Lando to take one for the boys and help him out. I nominate Lando on the "one slice off a cut loaf " theory.

Well you did post it in general chat! :D

I hope to see a few of the youngsters get a game, while making sure we have enough experience on the field to ensure we get a much needed win.  Hopefully Reading will be more concerned about premiership survival than a cup run and will play a weakened team.

A confidence boosting 4 - 0 would be nice.

Sure - I'll do Alex, but I'm not taking it up the sh*tter from Stevie for anything less than £9m. :D

See - that's a £1m discount from George Michael.

Can't question my loyalty!!!! :D

Taken from the Liverpool Echo:

ROBBIE FOWLER will make his Liverpool return against Reading, manager Rafa Benitez confirmed today.

The Anfield legend hasn't featured for the senior side since starting the Merseyside derby.

In fact, Fowler hasn't even made the bench since, but he'll be given an opportunity to revive his and the club's fortunes in the Carling Cup tie.

The striker sat out recent fixtures with a back problem, but he's recovered to take his place against Steve Coppell's side, as Benitez rings the changes after Sunday's 2-0 defeat.

"Robbie will play," said Benitez. "We will be using our whole squad.

"We have a lot of players who need games, so maybe it will be a combination of senior professionals and some young players.

"You know our idea from previous years. We do take the competition seriously, but it's clear we must be careful when we decide who plays.

"People still talk about changes in the team, but look at the situation we have with a player like Steve Finnan.

"He has already played nearly 20 games this season. For some clubs, that's virtually half a season.

"It`s clear that's not a good situation for the player or the club."

Fowler won't be the only one with a point to prove tomorrow night.

Stephen Warnock is also a likely starter, while Argentinian defender Gabriel Paletta is in line for his senior debut.

Right-back Lee Peltier also comes into contention.

Benitez will be hopeful Daniel Agger will be able to return in a special plaster cast, allowing both Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher to take a break.

Carragher is receiving treatment on an ankle injury sustained against Manchester United.

Jerzy Dudek misses out on a rare opportunity to start as the first of his three-game ban kicks into action.

With rookie David Martin the only alternative, Pepe Reina is set to continue.

judging from Rafa's comments, he's going to be using reserve players and yougsters.  Sounds a good plan, will let some other players make a claim for a 1st 11 place

Robbie fowler is not the answer for us now. Play him in the match but i think we gotta be moving forward. lets just really go for it in this match. feck if we lose, lets play some good football, attack, move around, ball on the floor.

that way we can win and will win i say

Frankly i can't be ar$sed with this game. We should only concerntrate on the Premier & Champions League.

This way, rafa will have less chances to rotate  :p

just jokin .......(better say this, before all the rafa supporters come out with all guns blazing...)  :D
