The battle of old trafford - It's a must win

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Looks like Kuyt is desperate to score tomorrow, lets hope he does. I think the game will be a draw, and I think if we lose the game, title over.
Draw the game, then we still have a slight chance, and win the game then we're right back in it.

Come on the Pool.

Well, there is going to be no better time to get our form together, i hate to say it but based on form we should lose 3 or 4-0. Rafa needs to put out the best starting squad he has, regardless of rotation. Our first half performance will be paramount, if we can go in 1 up at half time then i think we can win it. Kuyt and Bellamy need a goal to edge some confidence but i think Rafa will start Crouch as he is the form striker. I hate trying to figure out the system that Rafa will use so ill just go with what i think would be best:

                  Pepe
Finnan    Agger    Carra     Aurelio/Riise

Pennant   Xabi   Stevie G   Riise\Luis

         Craig           Peter

Subs: Dudek?, Sami, Momo, Luis/Aurelio, Dirk

Id rather Luis started but we do need a strong left side to counter Ronaldick, so id go with two sound left wingers. Probably bring on Luis for half hour. Id like to see Xabi and Stevie firing on all cylinders to give us the advantage in midfield. Ive chosen Craig and Crouchie upfront because they seem the most likely to score and id like to see Dirk come on later with a burst of energy.

Whatever happens, good luck boys. i dont want to see us 11 points behind tomorrow.

Have a good day anyone thats off to watch tomorrow!

The question being asked ahead of Liverpool's trip to Old Trafford this weekend is whether Rafa Benitez's side could still win the Premiership if they lose. I know that Sir Alex Ferguson has said that it is far too early to rule Liverpool out of the title race whatever the result on Sunday, but I disagree. I just don't think Liverpool are good enough to win the title.

I have been anything but impressed with Liverpool side this season and they are certainly not playing like title contenders. They are already eight points behind both Manchester United and Chelsea and I am struggling to believe that they can make up that deficit, let alone a gap of eleven if they are defeated this weekend.

Even the most die-hard Liverpool fan would surely admit that a loss at Old Trafford would signal the end of their title dream for another season.

A month ago, Arsenal travelled to Old Trafford in very similar circumstances. But the difference is that the Gunners were actually playing well at that time; Liverpool are not. Their away form has been dreadful and even after winning in the Champions League on Wednesday night against Bordeaux their confidence will be low. One goal in four Premiership fixtures away from Anfield tells its own story.

Rafa Benitez has pursued a policy of rotation since the turn of the year and while he says that this is a strategy he has used throughout his career, I don't think it is suitable for the English Premiership. To win the league in this country a team requires stability and continuity. Liverpool don't have that.

I think even Jose Mourinho has learnt that rotation can be self-destructive. While both the Chelsea manager and Sir Alex Ferguson tend to make the odd change to their line-up, the basis of team remains essentially the same. Benitez's mistake has been to make too many changes, too often.

Does he even know what his best eleven is? It's very difficult to be sure. I know that I would play Steven Gerrard in the middle of the park but Rafa remains reluctant to break up the partnership of Xabi Alonso and Mohamed Sissoko.

As a result, Gerrard has played in four different positions this season. Given that he is the best player in the team and we've only just reached the middle of October, I find that an astonishing state of affairs.

It certainly can't have helped Liverpool.

Shows he knows sh*g all about football, when all is said and done.

Gerrard's best position is right midfield, hence why he had by far his best season for us there, outscoring most strikers.

Andy Gray - tit.

This could be the turning point of our season...

If we beat the scums..... I dare to say that we will be premier league champs come may.

If we lose, i think the title is beyond us.

Thats how big this match is. But i do think we will win the game, if rafa picks the right team.

                      Reina
   Finnan    Carra   Hyppia   Auerlio
   Bellamy  Gerrard   Sissoko Riise
                 Kujt
                            Crouch

The scums can't match the firepower of this line-up.....

This aint a game for Aurelio to be playing left back in.  I wouldnt play him today id rather have Warnock or Riise at left back.  Id stick with Gonzales on the left flank, I know he played rubbish the other day but thats because he has never had any sort off run in the side.   For me this is what id send out today.

                Reinnna
Finnan   Agger   Carra  Warnock/Riise
Gerrrard   Mommo   Xabi     Gonzales
            Kuyt      Bellamy

Come on the lads, I havent beem able to sleep all night.  Im seriously debating if its a good idea to start drinking me stellas. lol  Or should I wait for a bit cause last year I couldnt remmember even being in Oldt Trafford.  What do you reckon chaps?

agree with your team murph except i think warnock at left back and riise on the left of midfield. the same reason you put for aurellio not playing, i also feel thats why gonzales wont play

i actually like the look of leighton baines at wigan, the scouse left back. he is good in defence and very good going forward, he also has a great shot on him. maybe one for us to look at one day

Niether of you lads fancy Sammi to start in this game ?

I certainly don't fancy Gonzalez for this game , I thought he was shockin' against Bordeaux .I'd rather see Riise or even Aurelio at left mid.

i just think samis lack of pace would be a problem today woof. i dont really see manu as being a great aerial threat (even though it was a header that beat us there last year). i think some pace at the back will be important today and agger has the edge there

Leightin Baines would be a quality singing.  Allthough I have heard hes a blue rather than a red but I suppose that dosnt mean to much really when you consider the past blues who have become reds.

As for playing Gonzales id play him for the simple fact he can win big games on his own.  Like he proved in spain last year and allso for the fact that hes fast as f**k.  He could really help the left back out with dealing with that cheating diving c**t Roanaldo.  Ronaldo as been in fine form when ive seen him this season.  Id let Warnock kick him into touch me but anyways....... Enough said thats it im off into the shower now then off to Old Trafford it is.

Take your point on Sammi, PeeWee , not sure if I fully agree  but it is a fair point . On the other hand I'd prefer to see a settled first choice pairing at the center of our defence . Sammi's either good enough OR he isn't ,wish Rafa would pick Carra and one other and stick with it.

As for Gonzalez Murph , he is fast as f'uck :D  and he may of won games on his own in Spain but this ain't Spain :D  . As for helping the left back , against Bordeaux he did b'ugger all to help out Riise who was constantly left facing a 2 on 1 situation . I wouldn't start him in this one BUT with his pace I would perhaps stick him on the bench.

We are back on our perch in Europe. Since the fluke of 99 we have won 4 european trophies. Fergie hasn't won that many at man u in his career.

As for today, Rafa must go back to what he believes in. His Valencia model. 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1.

                                              Reina
  Finnan          Hyypia          Carragher               Riise

                    Alonso           Sissoko
  Pennant                Gerrard                 Kuyt

                         Crouch

This would give us the midfield and allow kuyt, gerrard or pennant to get near Crouch when attacking. I really hope he gets back to something like this cos 4-4-2 for us isn't happening for gerrard and i just don't think bellamy, crouch and kuyt can get us the goals to win games when in that system. This model allows Garcia to be used more often because he is a very intelligent player who likes to drop off striker and can play wide too.

2-0 to the mighty reds.  Hyypia and Kuyt.

and here come the butterflies...damned man u matches always do this.

                    Reina
Finnan    Agger    Carragher    Warnock
Gerrard   Alonso     Sissoko        Riise
             Crouch   Kuyt

id go for that.....if it stays 0-0 and inneffective, would bring on bellamy at half time.

2-0 to pool...gerrard and crouch scoring.
