I drank in the Belmont for a couple of years.  Was my local for ages.  Got a bit nastified in there for me though and I stayed away for about six months.  Then I moved away from Anfield.

Yeah I remember it well.your right it was on Belmont road. The Wookie Hollow one of Liverpools premiere nightclubs.A place were the local celebretys footballers etc. and the Liverpool underworld could be seen. :D At its height the wookie would have some top stars on its bill,Bob Monkhouse,The Drifters[the real ones]and  of course opportunity knocks winner Lovelace Watkins.
The Wookie has been closed for years, its a pity really as one thing this city lacks is a cabaret club.

i dont really remember it as a cabaret club although i am aware thats what it was, i remember it when it re opened mid 80s as a nighclub. i believe the cabaret clubs were pretty big in the city at one time with some very good acts
