I always thought you where a bit stupid, but this confirms that you know zip, zilch, nil nada, nothing.

Gerrard was our best signing ever and Rafa signed him ! ! !

Didn't I just say that?

do you mean re-signed or signed him, el-stinger?

Well, he was well and truly off. And by saying that Rafa signed him, it was meant to be the best re-signing of the club's history.

To sign him was a testament to Rafa, and the ambitions of the club. Goes to show money can't buy everything.

I like this thread.

Houllier:

Best - Am struggling to decide between Finnan/Risse/Hyppia/Hamman and Mcallister. All great signings, would probably go for Hyppia.

Worst - Cheyrou (didnt like him at all)

Benitez:

Best - Hard to choose between Alonso and Momo. Both excellent additions, probably sway towards alonso.

Worst - Josemi for me.  Nunez was a close second but i thought Nunez did try, just not good enough.

Houllier - best: tough choice, if i made the decision based on the immediate impact they had at the time of signing i'd probably shoot for Gary MacAllister (who was instrumental in 2000/1), though Sami is still going strong today, so for that fact he probably pips him there.

I dont like to be a parrot so i'll just say i pretty much agree with ALL the previous posts about his worst signings.

Rafa's best: this is truly a tough question - i think most of his signings warrant a mention - alonso/sissoko/agger/kuyt - who all have different qualities - but if i base the decision on where the players are in terms of development TODAY (without considering potential for the future), i'd go for alonso, he truly is a world class player already

rafa's worst: nunez & josemi have both been mentioned (although i think josemi IS a good player, he just struggled to settle in to english culture, which is a gamble you take whenever you sign a foreign player, i personally dont think that makes it bad judgement on rafa's part), but i think kromkamp should be mentioned as well, he had no real excuse not to fit in, he spoke the lingo, and the dutch & english cultures arent a million miles apart - and i think the way he played for PSV when we met them earlier this season just goes to show we're well rid of him

houllier

best: hyypia without a doubt. notable mentions also go to riise, hamann and mcallister.

worst: sorry i haven't got all day :D

rafa

best: alonso or sissoko. quite staggering to think that michael carrick cost £3m pounds more than these two combined.

worst: pellegrino. don't even get me started. :D

To offer a different perspective, I'll talk about the signings of each manager that other top clubs would kill for/poor clubs wouldn't touch with a barge pole:

Houllier

Other top teams would kill for Riise
As we know all to well, not one decent club is interested in Diao

Rafa

So many here...
Other top teams would kill for Alonso (with an honourable mention to Sissoko, Garcia and, soon, Kuyt)

Not even poor teams would offer money for Pellegrino after his displays in red

Houlliers best signings were Hamman and Hyppia. His worst signings were any one of Diomonde, Cheyrou, Diao and Diouff.

Rafa's best signing is unquestionably Alonso. A top top midfielder is worth his weight in gold and Alonso is a pure gem.

Rafa's worst was Morientes. It actually looked like a golden deal at the time but Morientes came here on a wave of huge expectation and didn't deliver, at all.

for me, houlier made some great signings - riise; macallister, top 2 for me,but he let himself down badly with some shocking decisions in the transfer market, ie- cheyrou, diouf, biscan, diao, need i say more! however benitez has been far more impressive in his signings best for me-alonso,crouch, both excellent value for money!  worst has to be -kromkamp, morrientes.i hope my opinion on this thread doesn"t cause to much offence it"s just how i see the past & present transfer dealings.
