I guess no-one wants to answer this question then??!!

That aside- what's the book like- is it worth buying? I bought the Fowler one as i was interested i reading his version of the Houllier/Thompson problems but am wondering whether Gerrards has come abit early to have much of significant interest.

he has a right go at diao.

despite the fact that i think diao is garbage, to come out and criticise him so harshly whilst he's still and lfc player is not the way for a liverpool captain to behave in my view.

i have to agree with you, especially being captain! So what do you think of the book- is it worth buying? I'm going to buy a couple of books to read on holiday although not sure what to get- was thinking of the Tony Adams biography as at least it may have a bit more meat in it than the usual footballer books.

The Paul Merson one was very good.

Sadly the people with the worst personal lives and biggest problems make the best books. I've little interest in snooker but the Alex Higgins(not autobiography) and Jimmy White books are very good.

I heard that actually, apparently it just tells you his story rather than preaching which Adams has been accused of (still meant to be very good though).

I dont agree with players writting books when they are still shitting yellow, however if he does slate Diao, he has every right to IMO.
The lazy b@stard hasnt even got a shirt number and wont leave the club, because he is on mega bucks.
If I was Gerrard Id slate him aswell.
he is a no mark, shit footballer, gobsh1te, the sooner he leaves the better.
We could be paying a good player his wages now.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I have read quite a few , from "Hunt for goals" in the late '60's right up to Robbie's and Stjohn's. Most of them are pretty bland with a few "spicy" comments included to catch a few headlines and help with sales. I like them for the few insights that they provide but mainly for the memories that they bring back. They seem to be becoming more and more about being controversial and selling books than about their careers.

Hanson's and Fowler's books are probably the best Liverpool player autobiographies I have read, but some of the biographies about Shank's and Paisley are really good too.

StJohns was probably the worst I have read (disapointing to say the least)

I will be getting Benitez's and Gerrards books for Christmas, if my kids dont buy them for me,I will.

Gerrard has brought his book out now just to cash in but would have been better off waiting a few years imo.(Wont stop me reading it tho') Maybe he needs a new car, or its just to keep up with the Beckham's.

I don't blame him for pocketing the money, I blame that idiot Houllier for signing him - did anyone else in the world rate him?

the club should just pay him off and let him go, what must it be like for him, his confidence must be rock bottom, so when he does get a chance he boobs it up.

Funny how Le Boss has not come back for him ??? :D

Tommycockles.... you asked about books for your hols? The Tony Adams one "Addicted" is probably the best players biography I've ever read, he really is quite candid about what he got up to and his time on the lash (15 pints of Guinness every day after training, and he still Captained England to the Euro '96 Semi...!)
Have you read "Left Foot Forward"? it's by a fella called Garry nelson who played for Charlton in the early 90's, that's a great view of the game from a Journeyman's point of view, also "Football Against The Enemy" by Simon Kuper..... They're both quality reads....

i'm talking about the context of when he slated him and why.

if you remember when we played basle away in 2002, gerrard was sustituted for diao at half time and rightly so. it was around the time when gerrard's head clearly wasn't in the right place due to his parents splitting up. houllier had even come out and criticised him in public for his poor performances on the field.

gerrard says in his book that he knew from the first week of seeing diao in training that he wasn't lfc standard. he also says that in that second half against basle, that even at 40% he could still have done better than diao did. that's nonsense because diao was one of the main reasons we got back into the game. infact it was probably one of diao's best games for us.

i don't like it how he has a go at houliier for not keeping things "in house" so to speak and then he brings out a book slating people who are still at the club now. it stinks of hypocrisy.

I'm reading it now, at about p350.

He seems so selfish with everything he does. In awe as a youngster, but so cocky and self-centred nowadays.

I have to say that despite the realities, I am disappointed that he sticks up for Gary Neville so much in the book. The bloke is a complete sh*thead, and Stevie comes out and says he's miles better than every other rightback, even FInnan.

Does he actually know what he's saying? Finnan p*sses all over that c*nt for ability, AND he's his club-mate.

Where's the loyalty, Ste?

When he was on about SH*tski, it seemed despite all the b*llocks about LFC being his club and the bastion of his dreams, he'd happily trade it in for a Premiership winners medal.

Now, I may be alone in this, but the lad doesn't talk how I'd expect a Liverpool player and captain to.

ANd this book is nowhere near as good as Fowler's.

Gerrard is just a*se-licking Fat Frank, "JT" and the scum players, whereas Robbie says it how it really is.

No matter what, Liverpool's captain shouldn't be bigging scum players up.
Fat Frank broke Xabi's ankle, then protested at the booking. No mention of that when Gerrard is a*se-licking him.

Shocking, really.

i won't buy the book and contribute profit for something i think shouldn't have been done. you can't be the same time a good writer and good footballer; one of both must be cr@p. (you don't have to be a book writer to know that writing a good book needs much more time, space and all that than just typing your thoughts out for two or three hours in a day in your working room) gerrard display looks decent so far. so it's his book that must be the cr@p one, same goes for his 'my story', which i have seen before.
