EVERTON VS LIVERPOOL - Countdown to the woodison derby

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby SouthCoastShankly » Mon Sep 04, 2006 11:58 am

Although Physioroom.com has Sissoko and Carragher for saturday as their return date - I can't see Rafa risking them considering the tough week ahead.

Expected:

                     Reina

Finnan     Hyypia     Agger     Aurelio

Pennant     Gerrard     Alonso   Garcia

           Crouch      Bellamy

Bench: Dudek, Kuyt, Gonzales, Carragher, Sissoko

Normally I would say 3-1, a common winning scoreline against the scum, but this time I feel it will be a little closer - more of a 2-1 or scrappy 1-0. Either way we must win.

We need to pick the strongest team we have, and no messing round with players like Zenden.
Hopefully Sissoko and Carragher will be fit and i would play Warnock left back, i would play Pennant on the right and Gerrard on the left, i dont think Gonzalez is ready for this yet.
The strikers is the biggest dilemma tbh, i really dont know who i'd play.
Kuyt looked fantastic in his 30 minutes against West Ham, while Crouch has been on fire so far.
Bellamy has had a slow start but would cause them all sorts of problems with his pace, and Fowler would give 150% if he played. So i am glad its not me that has to pick out of them.
We should win this, but it wont be easy, the crowd will be passionate and they have had a good start, please Rafa dont mess around too much.

Most of the matches I get to are televised anyway, so it wouldn't stop me going.

Can anyone honestly say they'd stop going to Anfield if every game was on Sky Sports 1?

Television games just means you can watch the match again whne you get home from the match, in mate?

I think both PSV and Chelsea will be harder games to win. Everton although they're having a good start, by their standards, are beatable with a team minus Carragher and Sissoko. And if they're fit there's nothing stopping Rafa bringing them on as subs.

Its weeks like these that squad rotation is so valuable. If we are to match Chelsea for freshness we need to be rotating players. Everton is an ideal place to start.

Totally disagree mate, while Everton are definately beatable they are at home and have started the season well, they have Johnson now, who will cause far more of a threat than Beattie and Ferguson did and will be well up for this.
If we rest key players and are not up for it we will be found out, like 2 seasons ago. The derby is a battle, win the battle and then the better quality can show through.
We need Carragher in there to organise the back four, i'd play Warnock if fit cos the lad is a 100 percent player and knows what it means to everyone. Sissoko must play as well he is the one player we have that will give them as good as they will give us, and more.
I understand that PSV and Chelsea are also massive games but if we lose at Everton we go into them games (especially Chelsea) under huge pressure.

They'll employ the same tactics they always use against us - kick and batter us, especially to intimidate the boys new to the EPL (if they play) - I am also concerned with teh after-effects of this game.

I understand what your saying but who would of though Rafa would drop Gerrard for the Community Shield. I know the Community Shield has no real importance but none of us thought he would play that side versus Chelsea.

I think you'll see Rafa switching things on saturday. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I hope your wrong mate, i really do.

It worked in the community shield and it may work again, but it didnt against Sheffield United and if we lose against Everton it puts us under tremendous pressure going to Stamford Bridge. If we win at Everton we go there with alot more confidence and with a genuine chance to take points and leave Chelsea trailing behind the early pace setters.

So would Bellamy. He played against the Czechs on Saturday, and I'm assuming he'll play against Brazil tomorrow, although being a friendly it might not take so much out of him.

Would deffo start Warnock ahead of Aurelio at LB for this one.  Let's hope Momo and Carra are back as well.  Even a 75% fit Carra would make a difference--this game is about heart and desire and we need Jamie back.

The Echo's now reporting that Momo's winning his fitness battle for Saturday but that Carragher and Riise are looking doubtful, as they have yet to return to regular training.
