Good win, still need some work but with amount of new faces i guess thats to be expected.

The thing i like is the quality we call on from  the bench now despite the injury list

that's a gopal absolutely, kuyt looked promising, it was a good match. we look so dangerous, it only needs time before the opportunities converted to goals. only a matter of time for kyut to neet the ball,.

i'm so happy and i;m drungk!                   l:D

First post here but lurked for a while.

Thoroughly enjoyable and open game today. A bit nervy at the back at times in the second half when WHU pushed on but we were lively on the break and looked the more likely to score the next goal IMO.

I thought Kuyt had a wonderful debut. I, like a lot of people i'm sure, has some doubts about him and whilst it's early days, if he contiunes to apply himself like he has just done there, he'll be a tremendous player for us. His work rate was excellent. He linked up the play well, and had a particularly good understanding with Gerrard (shades of his understanding with Owen there IMO). Most importantly, like all top class strikers, his first thought everytime he got the ball was "Where's the goal". He will do well. Truly great debut I reckon.

The other new signings all played well but another player surely worth a special mention is Daniel Agger. I like this player a lot. The way he brings the ball out of defence, his distribution and his calm nerve, make him tremendous young talent. His goal was sensational but it was his general performance that impressed me the most.

Not many negatives but Garcia was fairly wasteful and didn't do much other than the excellent through ball for Crouch's goal but that's him all over for me. Gerrard didn't play to his usual high standards IMO. Unusually for him, was caught out taking a few too many touches at times when around the box. Played some great through balls though and always gives everything he's got, so far from a bad game.

Overall a good attacking performance. Bit worrying at the back at times but the hammers have got a great forward line who will cause a lot of teams problems at the back.

Good 3 points and a nice way to start the season at Anfield.

mmmm.....i dont see how everyone here seems to think L.Garcia had a caappy game !
He was always there where it mattered...(except for the second half when were attacked and needed some more cover in the left hand side and he was upfield trying to recieve instead of back there trying to cover with Aurelio).....When i said he was one of our better performers at half time...i really think he was !
He made that Crocuh assist and seemed to be our best option when goin forward.... played in some good passes, and his losing possesion a few times was only a minimal setback to what i thought was a really good game by the guy !
Agree with him coming off though... we needed to defend better especially that X.Alonso looked so out of shape ! i remember this one incident in the first half when a WestHam player dribbled past him and he tried to kik him from behind... should hav been a red card had there been contact ! they got to our final third of the field with ease at times, and Alonso was mostly to blame for som sloppy covering at times !
Much as i rate Alonso, wasnt one of his better games !
Kuyt came on and looked absolutely brilliant ! Will be a major hit if he keeps playing the way he did today... great work rate and superb vision !
Pennant was okay... the only reason i thought he wasnt quite good in the first half was because he never drifted infield when on the ball, or even when the ball was on the left side and he should have been in the center playing alongside the strikers ! Finnan went forward alot in the first half, and Pennant was always there to stop his progressing to the corner flag ! should have come a little deeper to open up play and provide more passes to Gerrard coming from the back (like Garcia did) !
Excellent first half....good second half ! Excellent attacking play.... poor defending from some of our midfielders .... and aurelio still needs time to get to his normal standards.... poor display !

Made good touches, runs and general movement was just what we require.

It is a bit to early to judge him at this stage IMO.  Give him 6 months/season then see.

I'm sure he'll come good though.

Glad to hear that Kuyt played well. Worrying that Alonso seems to have lost his touch since returning from the WC. Hope he's not pining for home!

He's probably exhausted both physically and mentally, after all he did play near enough a year of solid football.

Kuyt impressed me today.... but, a swallow does not a summer make. Keep up the good work son and you'll have this lot eating out of your hand. :)

believe what you see, it's only a matter of time before kuyt score plenty of goals, he's so threatening, so lively, and he's appearing everywhere, shoots more unpredictably, and he gets adapted so quickly, like an old joining player
