Forgive me, but I am new to the Premiership and Champions League. How does the draw work exactly? Is it like the World Cup draw??

There will be 4 bowls with numbered balls inside. These are called Pot A, Pot B, Pot C and Pot D. There are 8 teams inside each pot. This means there is 32 teams in total. The team is given a number depending on their previous success in the competition. So the number one seed is Barcelona, currently ranked the best team in europe. The number 32 seed is Liberec who are considered to be the team with the least success in the competition.

The draw:

One ball is randomly took out of Pot A.
One ball is randomly took out of Pot B
One ball is randomly took out of Pot C
and one ball is randomly taken out of Pot D.

The 4 teams make up one group.

This process is then repeated another 7 times until all 32 teams have been drawn out and allocated a group.

TWO TEAMS FROM THE SAME COUNTRY CANNOT BE IN THE SAME GROUP.

e.g.

Ball number 5 (Liverpool) is drawn from Pot A
Ball number 16 (Celtic) is drawn from Pot B
Ball number 21 (Steau) is drawn from Pot C
Ball number 26 (Anderlecht) is drawn from Pot D

So that forms one group:

Liverpool
Celtic
Steau
Anderlecht

I think you can watch it on the uefa website and I think I.T.V. are streaming it aswell. The draw is 17:00 B.S.T. and I think it is in Switzerland.

Thanks. Now are there 2 different European competitions. I know there is the Champions League but is there another as well? I am trying to grasp all this before the main stretch of the season starts and I become lost in a land of confusion. I understand the Premiership has a trophy for the regular season and then another trophy for the "post-season". Which is more prized? By the way, I got this information of Wikipedia so if I am off by a lot that's where I got my information.

i dont really care who we get. would prefer to not draw the big boys but anyone can be a banaskin especially for us so a bigger team would hopefully up our game.

The other European competition is called the UEFA Cup.

I think the other trophies you are talking about are the Carling Cup and the FA Cup. The FA Cup which is the "post season trophy" is the more prized.

Type in FA Cup into Wikipedia and that will tell you what you need to know about that competition.

There is no traditional "post season" in English football. That is, there is no regular season, where teams fight for places, followed by a play-offs, where the top teams play head-to-head series to determine a winner.

In the premiership there is a straight 38 game season for all 20 teams. The team that wins the most points by the end of the season (mid-May) is the champion and receives the corresponding league trophy. That's been Chelsea the last two seasons.

Running concurrently to all of that are two cup competitions--the Carling Cup and the FA Cup. These are separate tournaments that are open to all the teams in any division of English football (if I'm not mistaken). Thankfully, big teams, like Liverpool, do not need to play in the earlier rounds, when all of the lower-league minnows battle it out. Liverpool will enter both competitions at a later stage. In each round of a cup competition, two teams are drawn against one another and play a one-off game. The winner progresses to the next round.

Of the two, the Carling Cup is the least prestigious. It's kicked off already for teams in the lower divisions and Liverpool will have a match in a month or two (I think?). The final is in February. The FA Cup is the more prestigious and has a long history of glory. That one doesn't really heat up until the New Year and the final is played near the end of the league season in May.

No!!

The domestic title is a more prized trophy as this is played week in week out over the season!The champions League is a massive trophy but most fans and players would get more satisfaction and pride from winning the EPL (English Premier League)

A teams journey into the Champions League is determined by there finishing position in the EPL,usually the top 4 in England progress with the 3rd and 4th needing to qualify!
Basically if there was no domestic football there would be no Champions League!!

There is the Champions League and there is UEFA. UEFA in my opinion used to be more important a few years back. Back then there were 3 cups

1) The league winners cup, that would be the equivalent to the CL and Liverpool won it 4 times

2) The UEFA, full of good teams, since for instance while Real Madrid was playing the league winners cup, Barcelona was playing the UEFA and that season Barcelona was stronger...

3) And the Cup winners Cup.

Then the champions league was created and the best teams of each country play the champions league, thus the UEFA is watered down. The cup winners cup dissapeared and was merged with the UEFA, but if you win the cup in your country, and you qualify for the champions league, for instance being third, you play the champions league. Thus, the CL is the stuff that matters, and the UEFA not that much. But used to be important once.

Each country has CL places according to how they perform in the CL. England, Spain and Italy have more places than other countries.

IMO cup winners should go to the CL, because in england you give importance to it, but in countries like Spain it isn't that popular sadly, and it's a compo I like a lot.
