Owen's injuries - Always fit for summer

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I know he doesn't get injured on purpose, but it seems that Owen is always fit for the summer tournaments with England. He seems to be injured for half the year for LFC and then in the summer, when LFC are still paying his wages, he is away with England as fresh as a daisy.

Come November, he'll be injured again.

It just bugs me!

In my opinion, I think that Owen's heart has not been in his job this season.

Unlike Steven Gerrard who always gives 110%, as it is evident with Owen's goal-tally this campaign, he has been very under par.

I do honestly believe also, that Owen has felt unsettled at the club this season in terms of the team not going anyway under Houllier's leadership.

Let's hope that he can redeem himself both in the summer and next season - if he stays.

If you were playing alone up front, and your manager employs one-dimensional tactics which is to punt the ball for you to chase every time and hope you score, your so-called strike partner is the most "defensive" striker in the game who more often than not gets the ball when his back is facing the opposition goals and falls on his ****** under almost every challenge, your right sided "attacking" midfielder is always trying to dribble at least 2 defenders, your talented left sided midfielder/winger gets the ball deep in his own half and is expected to dribble past people, your defensive midfielder lacks pace but is forced to cover for the lumbering defence which included a halpess Croat playing out-of-position, and your only ally is the skipper who has to play as ball-winner, midfield general and long ball passes and run at defenders, will you be turlly happy?

Look at the service Owen gets... Let's hope things improve after Le Frog's era.

Agree that his hearts not been 100% on the job this year but he has still managed to bang in 19 goals in all competitions.

I would like to think next season he could have an excellent injury free campaign, with the new manager playing to Owen's strenghts i believe he could knock in 30 goals in the premiership alone.

Hi,

My 1st post and my thoughts...

I am from Singapore. Back here there's a huge following on the EPL. Has been with LFC since my dad made me watch football.:) I had my darkest days in a corner during the reign of souness and evans. GH did pretty well at the start but fizzle out to a schoolboy's coach later on.
About Owen, I am not very impress. He has a GH trend that makes him a "Wow" and now... a "Blahhh". I only see Stevie as the man of LFC currently. Owen's heartis not with the club. He has nothing to complement for except his so-called speed. He lacks the predatory instinct that Rush and Fowler has. To me Owen is useless. Milan can do more. He will never be in the ranks of World Class. Luckily we see Cisse coming in soon.
I wish the new manager that comes in kick some sense into the "England Hope". Else I'll like to cash in on him for 30mil and get someone which is of World Class. Trezeguet or F.Torres will be nice.:;): About Owen's injuries in the league, I couldn't care! Owen's not in my plans for the future of LFC.

Pardon my remarks for Owen whom is the darling to many in Anfield. Jus my feelings.

[I]I like to see myself cheering loudly as we win everything. As I watch the TV, looking at u guys celebrating on the streets. What a joy!

Michael Owen has already lost some pace due to years with hamstring injuries...and hes only 24.  If he has a decent euro 2004 and his value increases maybe we should cash in...I reckon Cisse will be the main man up front from now on.

Interesting post from begintoend. It is also interesting to observe the difference in views between the british and the non british followers. I agree with most of your views. I think Owens pace is vastly overrated, it has been a long time since I saw him break away from a defender let alone go past one because of his pace. However I am prepared to give all players a fresh start under Benitez. I think most of our players were hamstrung by negative tactics and football. This will hopefully change with a new management team. But if Owen continues to hold LFC ransom with his crazy wage demands I would sell him as soon as possible. So where will Owen go? Frankly I don't care. There are not many clubs that can match his wage demands. Maybe 10 - 15 clubs. However I do not think the best teams need and want his services.
If football is banned in heaven. I'd rather go to hell.

Why does owen demands such a high wage?
What I heard is he needs to sustain his love in betting horses... Is it all so true?

Would he like to wager a bet with me in him getting more than 30 league goals next season? :p

In terms of abillity he's in the top 5 or 6 in the world.

The reason the people who don't go to anfield don't rate him as highly as the ones that do are because you simply see more live at a game.

when you go to watch games live, you can see what players should be doing more often than not and Owen ALWAYS plays the right pass, ALWAYS gets into the right space and ALWAYS has chances.

He's got a pressence about his game. Him and Gerrard stand out week in week out. Even when they aren't at there best they always show there class in one way or another. If you went to games on a reular basis you'd understand where i was coming from.

I still wouldn't fancy my chance against Michael Owen in a race :p . I don't care who you are if you had to put up with the ****** Michael Owen has had to put up with ier the last 2 -3+ seasons then you'd be the same. The an is a legend and is far more committed to Liverpool then anyone has any right to expect. He is one of the top 5 strikers in the world and hopefully the arrival of Rafael Benitez will finally give him the service he deserves

Owen told us last year that he wouldnt be the player he was, he'll be back as good as ever. As for the injuries, thats bad luck. Redknapp was the same, its the curse of footballers at LFC

agree with stu here. oh no! :p

owen is world class. why else would barca, real, juventus, inter all be following his progress until he signs a new contract? the fact of the matter is he gets injuries due to playing a lot of football at such a young age. wayne rooney gets away with it because he is far more physically developed than michael was at 18.

since returning from injury owen has looked sharp, especially in the last 4-5 games of the season. i wrote a thread on here a couple of months back defending the guy. after we beat pompey 3-0, i said that anyone who doubted his commitment to lfc should be ashamed of themselves after seeing his performance that night. he was outstanding with and without the ball.

hopefully the new manager, who owen has been consulted over, will just reinforce michael's desire to sign a new contrat and go into euro 2004 in good spirits. if owen is on top form then portugal beware.

:)
