SHEFFIELD UNITED VS LIVERPOOL - the premiership assault begins

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

We should have lost today if it wasnt for a ref's mistake ! Gerrard put in a good effort... workd hard but was dissapointing to watch at times ! he played some cra.ppy long passes and some wrong decisions while on the ball ! Aurelio is no left winger ! Gerrard is no right winger ! kromkamp is a shi.tty right back and Fowler is a sub.... cant start a game ! I thought we'd start a slightly unexpected side but rafa's selections were just over the top wrong ! i hope we go through the qualifying stages and Rafa decides to field a more suitable team for Maccabi's game... could turn ugly if he brings in Kromkamp and fowler and zenden from the start !

Rafa's not stupid the whole time. His track record at Valencia and Liverpool is enough proof. I suspect he will start Garcia, Alonso, Finnan, Crouch and Kuyt and rest Zenden, Fowler, Kromkamp, Bellamy and Sissoko.

And I am thankful we have a deeper squad than last year. 2 injured in the first match !!

Ratings:

Reina: 6 (Could have come out and grabbed the cross that led to the goal. 2 Steps and a leapt would have gotten him there)
Kromkamp: 6 (Rusty. Not a good tackler.)
Sami: 6 (Getting slower by the weeks.)
Agger: 7 (Composed and went forward at appropriate times)
Aurelio: 6 (Decent skills but not convincing as a defender)
Gerrard: 8
Zenden: 5 (why the f is he playing a full match?)
Sissoko: 6 (stupid passes and some aimless running)
Gonzalez: 7
Bellamy: 7 (Would have been better if not for straying offside due to his impatience. Should have learned from Shevchenko)
Fowler: 5 (Slow and clumsy look at times)

At least Rafa has learned 2 things. Zenden is not a central midfielder, and Jan Kromkamp is not a professional footballer.

:no

Zenden plays much better in center of midfield, plus we can't judge him yet until he plays at least 20 games this season. Kromkamp is a decent right back and a very good backup for steve finnan.

Oh wasn't finnan injured and thats why he didn't play today?

it looks bad! when I saw him on the stretcher I thought he may be out for a couple of months, but the commentator said his ankle wasn't broken.

Two points could certainly be the difference between some of the teams that finish in the top five.

Dropping two points today is not a catastrophe but I am suprised at how some seem to so easily dismiss their potential importance .

I dont think anyone is dismissing the importance of the two pionts dropped Woof. but I do think some are over- reacting to ONE BAD RESULT. To be honest we have looked underpar in most of our games so far. Look on the bright side things can only get better ? We have one good result against Chelsea and the titles as good as ours - ONE BAD RESULT and weve thrown the EPL away?Bit of a kneejerk reaction going on I think.

woof, I understand that it is important not to drop two points today, but some people are being going overboard on today's result. Sure everyone is dissapointed, I'm dissapointed because I thought we should have claimed the 3 points, but look at some of the positives in the game, we have improved alot! I won't dismiss the potential importance of dropping the 2 points, but we still have a full season, surely other teams will drop points? its merely impossible not to drop points and win all 38 games.

im quite shocked that people are saying that gerrard had a good game he was quite involved but he misplaced almost every pass he attempted and looked very rusty, but so did everyonce to be honest. I wouldnt give anyone who played more than a 6/10 today. Very poor performance all round.

never said he was stupid ! just happen to think his starting line-up was shi.tty ! if he wanted to rest the players for the CL game...why not start Pennant ?! why not start Crouch ( i know he played earlier in the week for Englnd but so what?! its only the beggining of the season... can play 2 or 3 games a week)..if he wanted crouch in the bench...why not put in garcia?! he played alot in preseason and looked more than decent  ,, Gonzales on the bench for Aurelio at LM ?! why ?! its not like we were playing Chlesea or ManUTd ! Gerrard could have played in CM as some said... i thought he was gonna do that and start pennant too... except he never did ! Fowler was not good... i think he gets a 4 or 3 for his display today ... only good thing he did was that pass that led to the penalty ! Gerrard played too many long passes when he needed to pass to the man beside him !
Again... i think Rafa should pick the best 11 asap and try to stick to his selection ! no 'squad rotatin' as some suggested... no play a different team when playin against different oppositions... thats just wrong !
What got me the most today is that all the way through that first half... we looked absolutely clueless ! such a bad display and i cant see no positives in that game !
Aaaaaand..... by the way... i see Chelsea and ManUtd and Arsenal scoring them for fun against Sheff. when they meet... a poor side and they'r definetely going down come the end of the season !
