just be thankful we got a point   this was a perfect banana skin game if ever there was one

You have a valid point, but the players should be able to play today and on tuesday night against Maccabi Hafia. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't kill them to play two games in a three day period. Secondly if Liverpool want to win the title we have to be able to beat the Fulham's, West Ham's, Bolton's and Sheff Utd's of the league, we can't afford to be throwing two points away at mediocre opposition. There is little margain for error with Chelsea raising the level to another notch. It's a bitterly disappointing result and one that could be costly come the end of the season.

Like you said earlier you didnt even see the game, so cant really say much.

As for the rest of you... was it REALLY that bad?
Yeah we drew with sheff utd, but they were fighting for it, it was there biggest league game in over 12 years. We played a reserve style squad as we have a very important match on tuesday. And we didnt lose.

Hopefully after this result some of the newbie idiots on here might leave and become cheatski fans.

I never said I saw it, you thick and uneducated fool, try reading before talking out you're a.rse. A draw's a draw, it's a bad result especially when it's against relegation battlers. This club wants to win the league, (you okay or do I have to speak to you in simpleton language?) The lads cannot afford to be dropping valuable points, this isn't 1997 anymore when you could lose 4 games, draw 7 and still win the league, Chelsea as you should know have raised the bar to another level. A draw is a bad result, we've thrown away two vital points, you can dress it up all you like, it was a bad result.

thats the whole point i am trying to make mate, why play an understregth team against a team we all knew would give it everything, on their home ground, with their support.

we should have been making a statement today, we did make a statement, it says 'get at us and you will get something out the game'

there are no easy games and we should have had a full strength team out today, a team full of premier league experience to deal with what we knew was going to come our way. all we got today was the long ball again. we have been crowing all summer about now having pace and having wide men, and then we left them on the bench.

unbelievable

Like expected, tough game and a draw isn't a terrible result considering how average we played.

Riise's injury looked pretty serious may be out a couple of months I reckon. Fowler drifted in and out of the game, but had some excellent touches and looked better when he dropped deeper to come and get the ball (the 1-2 for the "penalty" was class). Gerrard was the stand out in midfield for me, while Zenden and Sissoko were poor in midfield. Sissoko didn't have his usual impact and Zenden was non-existent. Gonzalez worked hard and did reasonably I thought, Aurelio didn't impress that much though... early days, they need time to settle.

Bellamy was dangerous when he got on the ball and worked very hard up front, either himself or Stevie were the best players for us IMO. Defensively we didn't have that much to do, but the marking for the goal was calamitous. Kromkamp did ok, but didn't offer as much going forward as Finnan would have if fit. Sami was a tower of strength in the air as usual, but he got isolated a couple of times in the first half, while Agger did ok, but I think he was the man who lost Hulse for the goal.

Overall a pretty average performance, can only improve.

Ratings:

Reina: 7
Kromkamp: 6
Sami: 7
Agger: 6
Aurelio: 6
Gerrard: 7.5
Zenden: 5
Momo: 6
Gonzalez: 7
Bellamy: 7.5
Fowler: 6

Pennant, Riise and Carra weren't on the pitch long enough to make a significant impact, hence no rating.

and like i said dipsh!t, im saying you didnt see the game, so all you are basing your t!tlike views on are the score. We were not that good, but we werent really that bad for everyone on here to have a massive go.

We drew with a newly promoted team who flooded the midfield and bullied us around, injuring two in the process. We saved our players for the chmaps league qulifier which we HAVE to win.

So dont get so snotty, watch the game before making crappy remarks and grow the feck up dude

No the performance wasnt THAT bad, but thats not the point.
This was the opening game of the season and obvious to anyone that it was a potential banana skin so why not play the strongest team, get the win and start the season on a high ?
I understand we have a vital game on Tuesday but we would of been going to Kiev brimming with confidence had the full first team played and won convincingly.
What bothers me most is Zenden playing, why not play Pennant and leave Gerrard in the centre ?
Obviously Alonso and Finnan had knocks as they were not even subs and with the unfortunate first half injuries Rafa's subs were badly limited. Starting Robbie was a bit strange as well considering he has been injured.
I think Rafa got it wrong but that United or Chelsea could drop points at Bramall lane as well, it wont be an easy game for anyone there.

the passsing was poor and again too many long balls from the back.  Defenders just kicking to forward into space.  Zenden does not have the awarness or ability to play in midfield.  He doesnt see passes, he cant pass long and has no place in the side.

i was dreaming about past glorious LFC, i don't think that expectation is too high for this season. super team of kenny wouldn't be bullied by a newbie team like this

i'm sad
but don't blame me, maybe tomorrow i'll be happy again :(

I'm not basing my views on the match, as for the third time I haven't seen the match. But you don't need to have seen the game or have an IQ of Steven Hawking to realise that a 1-1 draw to relegation battlers Sheff Utd is a poor results, it's acceptable for a side like Fulham but not for a side who is supposedly challenging for the league title. The players should be okay with being able to play two games in three days, then they'll have a rest before the following weekend, where most (if not all) the players should be match fit.

You'll sit in your chair in 10 months time when we don't win the league and you'll say " we should of won the opening day match against Sheff Utd", it's little results like this, that make a big difference come the end of the season.
