Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby drummerphil » Fri Aug 18, 2006 1:25 am

Hello everyone, well for me i'm well impressed with our summer coming and goings and can only see exciting times ahead.I hope i'm around to see our first title in too long arrive finally.17 years is far too long for Liverpool to have waited to be where we truly belong. As for Kuyt i will have to reserve judgement and not get too carried away, Cisse's cost and performances etc etc should really make us all sit up and realise because you spend the money, dosnt always mean your getting the golden ticket.I'm still more excited about a fit Robbie being back to be honest at the moment.Anyway heres to exciting  times......:D

Hello Drummerphil. How are you lately? Hope you can get well soon?

I think Kuyt would be a great signing for us. I'm not trying to get carried away on this but I think his attributes and goal instinct is not a fluke. He has scored in every possible angle and he definitly got very good shooting skill.  :)  So, i will keep my finger crossed and in Rafa we trust! :buttrock:

As a Feyenoord fan, I'm having a terrible day. Therefor my congratulations go out to all of you, with signing Dirk Kuyt (pronounce it as "Koit" where the o actually is an "a" when you say "Dirk Kuyt just scored a beautifull goal at Anfield road").

To all of you: Dont get you're hopes up for the first game he plays. He wont be as good as he can. At Feyenoord he had to have time to settle down too. And he did great, as he managed to steal every Feyenoord supporter heart and he didnt break it once (okay.. the dancing in the national team with players like Sneijder and van der Vaart was bad, but thats his thing). He also did great because he didnt have any great striker who he could learn of, he did it all on his own behalf. He scored great goals, in great matches, cheered with the fans, cry'd with the fans, hoped for prices with the fans. He IS a Feyenoord fan.

I hope for you guys he can do the same for you. Really, its hard for me to see him play at Anfield, but thank god its Liverpool.

By the way.. Now I need to get some tickets for a game at Anfield.. never went to an english game before, so can anyone e-mail, or private message me with some tips to get tickets for a Liverpool game at Anfield? Would be greatly appreciated by me, so I can come and cheer for Dirk when he scores a goal for Liverpool.

Have fun with Dirk guys, and take care of 'm for us Feyenoord fans.

Lost Kuyt and Kalou.  Thats 40 goals gone from the team.  Do you thik you can compete against Ajax, PSV and AZ this season?

seriously keep it to the general chat thread because this was good discussion before it went off track. I admit being partly to blame for that but let's put it back on the track.

i never go off the rail in a thread, i always stick to the points  :D

I think we can. Lots of us dont think the same way, but I have some weird faith in the team we can compete with everyone this year. Especially now Kuyt left every one is pointing and laughing at us, but the team aint that different, and sure, Kuyt's loss is a really bad thing, but not the end of the world. He is a great player, great for the team, but its the team that Kuyt needs, if you have a bad team, Kuyt will play bad (imagine what would mean this for you Liverpool guys, good team, good Kuyt!). Feyenoord will use your money to buy some good midfielder and defender (especially our left back position is to be ashamed of..) and upfront will be a spot open for van Hooijdonk, which will put in a few goals this season.

Sure Ajax got some good players, and a good striker, but you wont hear me say we cant compete with them, I just cant, even if it was the truth (the hate..). About PSV: Sucky team, sucky coach, they will suck this year. And AZ has done well the last few years, but they won't be that good this year. Lost their no 1 keeper to us, and only bought young players. If van Gaal can keep peace with all those youngsters it'll be fine (not great, fine), but if a few get :censored: off by van Gaal's coaching mentality it will be funny to watch them slip to places 6th to 10th.

As far Kalou, as I stated earlier, I'm glad he's gone. Sure he put in some goals for the team last year, but most of the time he was too lazy to even make an action. Totally demotivated.

Feyenoord had forward problems before van Hooijdonk came for many years, we won a few prices back then with a good base team, with a lot of good mentality and the will to fight for the club. If the team fights for us we will be able to beat everyone.

I'm gutted. I thought he was rubbish against quality players in the world cup and he was poor against Ireland too during the week.

I don't rate him, hope I'm wrong but I was gutted when we bought Cisse and I have that sinking feeling. :(

I think that we could win the league if we had a top quality goalscorer (think Shearer of a decade ago)  but we can't really afford one but for 10m I'd expect more than a 26 year old (i.e. won't get much better) who hasn't impressed at a top level.

I hope Kuyt fits the bill, I'd read in the Guardian that he cost us some 9million pounds. His goalscoring record is excellent for Feyenoord, but then Ketzman came to Chelsea on the back of some 40+ goals in Holland and did not make the desired impact, but truth to be told for that is the way Chelsea and Mourinho used him.

Anyway, welcome to Anfield, Kuyt.

Liverpool are hoping to complete the signing of Dirk Kuyt from Feyenoord this morning.
The Dutch striker underwent a medical yesterday and will officially sign his new Anfield contract as soon as the test results have been approved.

"We hope the results will prove to be satisfactory. All being well it will go through this morning," confirmed Chief Executive Rick Parry.

I only seen the highlights of Ireland Holland in midweek but thought he looked sharp, he showed good awareness around the box and put a team mate through on goal twice.
Not exactly Bergkamp but from what i have heard he will work alot harder for the team than Cisse ever did as well.
