Tipped for the title - Wooly's kiss of death

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Rafa D » Tue Aug 15, 2006 6:48 am

Reading yesterdays Daily Star, I see Wooly had tipped us for the title this year. Now consider this fella has been rather pro- Chelsea for the last 6 months, this is a big turning point. Personally I am glad people are starting to take notice of what Rafa is building, how good Momo actually is and the options we now have. However tipping us for the title is like a kiss of death. last time we were tipped by a respected pundit, it was Big Ron is 2002/2003 and that year we finished 5th I think.

However Rafa possesses a lot more nous than Mr Houllier and he has the balls to change things. Rafa transfers this year have been clever if not spectatular, he identified problems and adressed them and I for one am very hopeful for the new season, I would just prefer it people didn't jump on the Liverpool bandwagon.

The Community Shield was the first game, I have seen us beat Chelsea comfortably. We dominated the first half and Zenden and Momo were making Ballack, Essien, and Lampard look average at best. The goal was a good goal from Shevchenko, he had one chance and scored. This was all without 3 key players on the field in Sami,Xabi and Stevie.
When he sent on the calavary at 60 mins mark in Stevie, Xabi and Bellamy, Chelsea were not even in it. We fully derserved the win and Chelsea did not even threaten us at the death.

The start of the season is vital in the title race this year, if we can get ahead  of Chelsea and take some points off them at the Bridge, I can't see them catching us, I know the season is long and hard but if we start better than them, our consistency won't let us down. We have enough strength in the squad and with Rafa at the helm, anything is possible.
The new additions make us a lot more creative and more direct when attacking teams, against Chelsea, normally we take the lead defend like dogs etc. However this time we were running at them and playing clever passes. I fully believe this will be our year.

In 2005 at Anfield, I seen a sign during the Juventus match with
      "Make us Dream"

This year, I truly hope that this lads dreams become a reality.

There's a few of the papers seem to be tipping us at the moment, jonnymac posted an article Here and they seem to think Chelsea might get blindsided by trying to get CL status, that they will lack in the league.

Yeah its really nice to be tipped for the title now, shows how much we've improved, but it would be better if we stayed the underdogs.

I wish for great things this season, we have built a great team now only lacking another striker

we'r still the underdogs but our chances have improved dramatically !
the key to our title race is consistency . We win games in a row...chelsea stumble...we get some points from our games with chelsea, get good results when playing the other top 3 and we could well be the champions by the end of the season !  Easier said than done though.... Rafa can do it !

Rafa has plugged the gaps in the team with some real quality. On Sunday's performances Zenden can more than do a job in CM, Gonzales looks a real find, Aurelio looks like he will have a big part to play this season, Sissoko is threatening to kick lumps out of and dominate any midfield, Pennant has the quality on the right to release Gerrard and Agger will slot in when required beside Carra when required (probably more than many of us believe - he looks the part).

I have had a lot of email, calls and texts from people (neutrals) who know I am LFC daft saying that we must be in the strongest position we have been for years and that, on Sundays showing, we could win the league. I am excited....VERY excited this year :D

Do you reckon they meant the apology, honestly?

They are both as bad as each other. The s*n is basically the st*r. By buying it you are lining the pockets of these sick feckers.

On the same kinda track, saw Tommy Smith on Sky Sports News this morning, he was showing off his medals and Tipping us too..always nice.

Although he was also drawing comparisons between our current wingers and the wide players from the 60/70's under Shankly. not too sure that Thompson/Heighway would appreciate being compared to Pennant  :Oo: think the lad has a bit to do yet!!
As always I am focused on supporting the Cloob and the Manager

I'd prefer if we weren't tipped as the favorites imo. I rather us have the underdog tag and work hard and build our way up quietly without the media attention.

The last time we were tipped for the title, we finished fifth.
