Reading yesterdays Daily Star, I see Wooly had tipped us for the title this year. Now consider this fella has been rather pro- Chelsea for the last 6 months, this is a big turning point. Personally I am glad people are starting to take notice of what Rafa is building, how good Momo actually is and the options we now have. However tipping us for the title is like a kiss of death. last time we were tipped by a respected pundit, it was Big Ron is 2002/2003 and that year we finished 5th I think.
However Rafa possesses a lot more nous than Mr Houllier and he has the balls to change things. Rafa transfers this year have been clever if not spectatular, he identified problems and adressed them and I for one am very hopeful for the new season, I would just prefer it people didn't jump on the Liverpool bandwagon.
The Community Shield was the first game, I have seen us beat Chelsea comfortably. We dominated the first half and Zenden and Momo were making Ballack, Essien, and Lampard look average at best. The goal was a good goal from Shevchenko, he had one chance and scored. This was all without 3 key players on the field in Sami,Xabi and Stevie.
When he sent on the calavary at 60 mins mark in Stevie, Xabi and Bellamy, Chelsea were not even in it. We fully derserved the win and Chelsea did not even threaten us at the death.
The start of the season is vital in the title race this year, if we can get ahead of Chelsea and take some points off them at the Bridge, I can't see them catching us, I know the season is long and hard but if we start better than them, our consistency won't let us down. We have enough strength in the squad and with Rafa at the helm, anything is possible.
The new additions make us a lot more creative and more direct when attacking teams, against Chelsea, normally we take the lead defend like dogs etc. However this time we were running at them and playing clever passes. I fully believe this will be our year.
In 2005 at Anfield, I seen a sign during the Juventus match with
"Make us Dream"
This year, I truly hope that this lads dreams become a reality.
