LIVERPOOL VS CHELSEA - Community shield build up here

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

One more thing... we have to keep our feet in the grounds on this one... a really good display by our players and all but lets face it !
That chelsea side wont be looking so shi.tty when the season starts... This game is probably one of the worst i'v seen chelsea play since Roman and Jose came along ! Their formation and defensive positioning were awful to say the least, and besides a few lampard passes and Essiens efforts in midfield and Sheva's show there was nothing to mention in chelsea's game !
Liverpool were really good....but chlesea were kinda cra,ppy too !

Metalhead mate, you have the game available via torrent, in mininova or deness trackers! I was downloading it and avoiding to know the result but a friend congratulated me for the victory  :)

As soon as I see the whole game I comment it !

Thanks sabre, but i have crappy 56k modem here  :D

and thanks jondoe, but i have ART channels that shows premier league games, so i will be able to watch Liverpool live next week. I was surprised why the ART didn't show the Community shield today :Oo: .

ART sports is one of the best channels in the middle east and the arab world.

Thier fans were a disgrace. Hardly any turned up compared to our fans and the ones that were there sang one song and that was when they equalised.

On our performance I thought we played well but there is still room for improvement.

Biggest plus. Agger. Won everything in the air and completed 90 mins and looked asured of himself. Momo was also brilliant but we can come to expect that now like we do with Gerrard and Carra.

Biggest downer. Their goal probably. Well taken, can't blame anyone really. If I was going to be harsh I would blame Finnan for not seeing Carra had to mark two men at once but it was a top quality goal.

No handshake between Benitez and Mourinho

Rafael Benitez and Jose Mourinho failed to join in the mood of goodwill and charity when they again refused to shake hands after Liverpool had beaten Chelsea 2-1 to win the FA Community Shield at the Millennium stadium.

The pair had stirred their feud by cold shouldering each other after Chelsea's defeat by Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final last season.

This time Liverpool manager Benitez said: 'He decided not to shake hands in the last game and this time he was behind me and he did not say anything.

'I was focusing on my team and my supporters and maybe he was thinking about his team and his supporters.

'For me it is not a problem. After the FA Cup he decided not to shake hands. But I am not thinking about this. I am thinking about my team and how to improve.'

Chelsea boss Mourinho also dismissed their refusal to indulge in the normal post-match English courtesies, albeit inferring that Benitez had plenty of opportunity to offer his hand if he had so desired.

Mourinho said: 'Football is 90 minutes. If we shake hands, if we kiss do you think that is important?

'I was on the pitch from the last whistle until the moment Liverpool received the cup. I was there the whole time.'

Nevertheless, it left a sour taste after a match in which John Arne Riise put Liverpool ahead with a left-foot thunderbolt before Andriy Shevchenko equalised just before half-time.

Peter Crouch scored a deserved winner with a stooping header late in the second half to record Liverpool's third victory against Chelsea since Benitez took over two years ago.

Benitez said: 'I'm happy. It was difficult for us. It is the beginning of the season and the team is not 100% fit but their work-rate was fantastic.

'It is always important to win against top sides. To win another trophy is good for the confidence.

'This year we have a better team and a better squad than last season.

'Last season we had problems. We had only Djibril Cisse with pace. Now we have Craig Bellamy and Jermaine Pennant and lots of options, people with quality and pace.'

Benitez, however, refused to underestimate Chelsea's firepower as they chase a third consecutive Premiership title.

He said: 'They have new players, good players. I think it is a very good team. Mourinho has experience and he knows what to do.'

Damn they must hate each other so much!

The whole situation between the two managers is all down to Mo and his attitude towards us our club and Rafa, he simply cant handle the fact that its Rafa who is the specail one.

A fine 2-1 against the Chavs at Chelsea has no doubt set us all up for the coming battles this season. For those who say it's a "nothing" trophy I'm with Bob Paisley on this one who famously said "It might be a nothing trophy but its a dog to qualify for"

Chelsea sold 9,000 tickets, Liverpool FC sold out, says it all really about what it means to "support" your side.

You have to laugh at Maureen's pre-match comments that his team were at half strength. His starting line up was this :

Cudicini, Ferreira, Terry, Carvalho, Essien, Geremi , Ballack, Lampard, Shevchenko, Drogba , Robben !

With the exception of Cuddicini and Geremi I'd wager that the rest play the majority of games for Chelsea this season although Ballack's got a sick note in already !!!!!!

Of course Liverpool were at full strength and left Gerrard, Alonso, Hyppia, Bellamy and Aurelio on the bench  for the best part of an hour as these fringe players try to break into the starting 11 !!

Riise goal was worth the entrance fee alone and Chelsea responded as only they (and Man U in their prime) know how when Fat Frank did what he does best , namely kicking players off the ball believing that referees will understand his greatness and let him off ! Fat Frank and Ball-ache (oops I mean Ballack) both booked in the opening 25 mins.

Am I the only person who believes Franky Boy is SO overated ? Without his gimp, Makele mopping up behind him he doesn't have the time and space and when up against quality midfielders such as Sissoko and Alonso and rarely puts on a show when up aginst the very best. It might be impressive in your book to see him score 18 goals for the last 2 seasons but take away the penalties (cant score one for England though) and his goals against inferior opposition then you have a very ordinary player.

Steve Maclaren has shown Beckham the door i noticed, why doesnt he go further and slim down the squad (in more ways than one) by dropping fortunate Frank !

Compare him to Stevie G who has played and scored in every major footballing final other than the World Cup. Thats UEFA Cup, FA Cup, European Cup and Carling Cup that Stevie has notched an important strike . Whats Frank done ? Scored against West Brom home and away ...great !!!!!  Pick out a strike of importance against Arsenal, Man u or Liverpool for me ? Movin on .............

Ooooohh mannnnnn!!! What a game. Very very very good performance. We have so many options even we can lead Chelski without our big names. I think we'd a complete team this season and Premiership title is closing to us! Shame on Chelski, they don't even have supporters. I can see 3/4 of the stadium occupied by the Reds.

Bittersweet for  me, lads.  Beating Chelsea always pus a smile on my face and today's no different.  But the muppets who run sports networks in Canada will only splash out for Premiership and late stage CL games.  I chomping at the bit to actually watch the boys live.  That's why, next Saturday @ 7:30 AM (my time).  I'll be glued to the telly cheering the lads on.  Hell, I might even start the day off with a cold one to toast what will surely be the first of a string of league victories in our march to the title.  Come on you red men! :buttrock

good post and I agree with you that Lampard is overrated.  He's probably the most overrated player in the world.  He's nothing without the likes of Makelele and Essien.  Also, like you said, he hasn't inspired his team to victory in big matches like Stevie has done so many times.
