Personally I think that Houllier is to blame for his negative tactics!!!
Stevie G has been quoted as saying though that the players are to blame for GH's Departure! what do you think!
"My Idea was to build Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility"

"To build Liverpool up and up, untill eventually everyone would have to submit!!!"

At the end of the day it was the players out there on the pitch.  I know they were acting on orders but when you have a number of second rate players on the pitch there's not much you can do.  SG pulled his guts out on the pitch but he couldn't make up for them all (biscan, cheyrou diouf and Co).  So really I agree that some of the players were to blame.

I guess it comes down the fact that GH signed the players, they were and still are not up to the job and quite frankly probably will never be.

I think its the managers dutie to get the best out off his players, so GH is to blame. I bet you under new managment some off the players you have mentioned will come good.

How can he blame the players ( ie biscan, cheyrou, Diouf ). GH bought them, he played them out of postion. The players can only do so much and ability will only take them so far. Imagine if Stevie G and Owen wern't there!!!!! We'd be in serious sh*t.

Yeah. He took us as far as he could. Two seasons ago we were looking really good but just got over took either by Arsenal's awesome play, Chelski's money and Man Yoo's Luck.

He didn't blame Diouf - only pointed out that he was a bad buy. I think he has been very honest to come out and say such a thing.

damn right. i don't think that diouf is a bad footballer by any means. i think he is a footballer who was overpriced and was never going to fit into gerard houllier's system.

it's amazing how often we pay over the odds for footballers.

I honestly think that those days have ended with the signing of Cisse - there'll be no more multi million pound chances taken - the boards got frightened in time.

At Liverpool, I don't see or hear that the Chairman chooses or instructs the manager on who should play and how the team should play. No, there was only one person in charge of the playing side and the same person decided on who to buy and the general playing style or tactics.

If you were the manager in Liverpool's environment, you can't deflect the blame by pointing at the players because you train them, condition them and picked them to play your style of play without any interference.

It was different at say, AC Milan. Berlusconi did say that his Milan team should pley with 2 strikers all of the time and he did say this once too often until his coach did exactly that which resulted in Milan going through a wobbly patch, including losing 4-0 to Porto. But this never happened at Liverpool and Moores is one who not only shies from publicity but alsoi gave his coach the perfect working environment by not interrupting and giving him full backing.

If Houllier did blame his players, it is typical of him. Losses are due to this and that, never due to being tactically outplayed by the opposition. In the worse case, he criticised his players. Remember Ginola in 1994 and Steven Gerrard in 2002? He publically singled out these players and went to the press.

Hollier simply does not have that ability to take us to that extra level and he has had all of the support, finacial backing and authority.
