Thats good to hear, i was fearing a situation like Everton found themselves in with Kroldrup, i hope if he is injured its nothing too serious because he looks like a potentially brilliant ball playing centre half.

Also very glad to hear that.  Glad he's getting some games under his belt.

Bigmick - I agree, I think he'll come good.

Bad Bob - Interesting idea that maybe Palleta will be Carra's backup and Agger Sami's.  We'll see soon enough.

To be honest i see that one the other way around, Palletta seems more like Hyypia...dominant in the air. With Agger better with the ball at his feet, like Carragher, its early days but thats how i have seen it so far.

Was going to add that myself Ace.  Palleta is the more aerially dominant and in that way is more similar to Hyypia.  But then again in terms of mentality, Palleta seems the more aggressive out of he and Agger and in that way would be more similar to Carra than Hyypia perhaps.  Whatever way you look at it, I think we have some real potential on our hands with the 2 young lads.

Not very by the looks of it.

Personally I'm not bothered.  Give me a positionally sound player who can defend over a quick one any day in terms of centre backs.  Pace is only a bonus.

I think Agger must be out with some sort of injury and I hope he recovers from it completely and it's not like a costant thing like it is with Kirkland.

All of you seem to have Paletta and Agger as understudies where as I see one of them being the first choice with Carra now. I think even Sami realizes his age is cathing up with him and his lack of pace will leave us caught on easily in the league, so I think Sami will be used more in the European games than in the Prem, unless Rafa uses Sami as a sweeper type of player with Carra and either Agger or Paletta in front of Sami.

How does that sound people? Sami as a sweeper?

Naw, there's no absolute way Rafa will employ such a formation unless its late in a game where we want to defend a lead. A team of such quality like ours will never employ a 5-4-1 formation from the start.

Using our most aerially dominant centre half as a sweeper makes no sense at all mate.  The way Carra and Sami play at the moment it is usually Carra that drops off and does any sweeping that needs to be done and he lets Hyypia go and challenge the strikers aerially.  Playing Hyypia as sweeper would mean him sitting back and not challenging in the air so much, which would take away his biggest strength.

I cant believe people want sami out the team because of his age, hes been a different class the last season and whatever competition gets thrown at him he seems to excell even more. Top class player, ye he doesnt have pace, so what? his reading of the game and his timing in the tackle make his lack pace irrevelant, he might get caught out the odd time by a pacey player but carra is there to mop up. The only time hyppia looks vulnerable to me is when he gets dragged out wide but he is been absolutely superb with carra and i dont think hes ready just yet to be thrown out the team coz hes 33/34 after having one of the seasons of his life. Hes still got enough about him to be playing regularly at the highest level. Paletta and agger have plenty of time yet to make the breakthrough and the only way they should get a look in is if they are playing better than hyppia, and on last seasons performance samis not ready to give his place away to the youngters.

Agger was playing for Denmark at some Uefa Under-21 Championship up until the end of May when they got knocked out by Ukraine. Guess he got some extra time off or picked up an injury after that, but sure he will be in contention come the start of the season.

I don't believe Rafa would use Sami as a sweeper, I just wanted to hear your thoughts on the subject. I think Sami, played his best season ever last year and fully deserves a place in out starting 11 next year.
