What are your biggest fears for liverpool - Pick two only

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby big al » Wed May 26, 2004 4:04 pm

My own biggest fears are

1  That the board appoint a manager who has the credentials but will not be able to adapt to the premiership or british football.  What I mean is that they don't understand the significance of a Derby match or a cup match.  Its alright talking about foreign managers but they all take time to adjust, British culture is vastly different to that of many continetal countries,  Thats why I would prefer a manager from the British Isles.  I don't mean to offend anyone but if Houllier could'nt do it they why should another european manager succeed.

2  That the board accept this Thaksin bid.  I really beleive this could turn out to be the biggest farce in football.  Its one thing for and individual to spend his own money but to be wanting the Thai people to buy the club is a joke.  Moores owns 51% of the club thats according to this deal a value of 102 million, surely thats way below the value of LFC.  Did'nt granada buy 10% for 20 million some 6 or 7 years ago whats happened to inflation.  According to the figures Liverpool is valued at 200 million but we have a gross turnover of over 100 million. this all dosent add up to me.  can anyone explain it all?

1.  Steven Gerrard leaving.

2.  Appointing a bad manager.

Note:  This is my 500th post.  I look forward to sharing the next 500 with you all.

first of all may i point out that there is only one direction that liverpool can go now, and that is up! :)

my two biggest fears are.

1. the fans expectations. i know it will only be a minority, but if things don't improve in the new managers first season, i fear that certain supporters will jump on his back. liverpool fans are renowned for their patience and loyalty and for the first time in a while are extremely optimistic. the manager must be given time to stamp his authority on the club. realistically, for me, it is going to be at least 2-3 years before we win the league.

2. the appointment of our next manager. get it right and we will be on the right track again. get it wrong and it's goodbye to owen AND gerrard. they are both too good to not be winning at the very highest level.

I know.

He's not the name I want in the job.  Not experienced enough, not won anything and I don't want to sound harsh but I couldn't imagine the top European players have heard of him so how could we sign them?  We would only go backwards.

We need to progress from what Houllier has left behind.  Curbishley wouldn't know what hit him if he stepped into the Anfield hot seat.

Agree, I hope Rick Parry to see your point and he's better listen to us that what we think. Really, he don't give a t0ss about us!

1 That Benitez is not all he`s cracked up to be.That we find out too late that Hector Cuper was the real reason for Valencias success(although it looks now to be a phoney story.

2 That our board of Directors dont share the same ambition as the supporters. The inability of them to recognise O`Neill as the obvious man worries me greatly. Are they blind as well as stupid?

1. That this whole manager situation drags on all summer with no time for whoever arrives to put his stamp on the team.

2. Next season the teams shows as much passion as they do this season

Two biggest fears ?
1,We don't have Owen and Gerrard for at least another three seasons (whoever the mgr might be)
2, The Thai bid, they seem to be getting a bigger say in LFC than I thought they might and they have made it clear (by talking about looking at other premier clubs)
that for them this is business not a LOVE for LFC. :(

Biggest fear;the investment becomes a white asian elephant, fraught with legal wranglings that dissappears, leaving the new manager with nothing in the transfer fund except thrippence ha'penny from David Moores generously deep pockets.

This in turn will lead to Owen packing his bags and Gerrard seriously considering the enormous offer from Chelski.

Just a little aside here, the term "white elephant" originated in thailand !!!!
The King would give a white elephant (regarded as almost sacred) to someone he didn't like. The "white elephant" was so special it wasn't allowed to work but had to be treated as royalty thus costing the recipient of the Kings "gift" a small fortune.
Why am I telling you this ?  :D   :D

My two biggest fears :-

1. We appoint a manager who has an overblown reputation or just simply doesn't have the track record (so O'Neill is £h1t out of luck)

2. We spend too much money on unproven players (£14m on Cisse to add to Heskey at £11m and Diouf at £10m)

1) That Gerrard will leave (That's an even more frightening prospect than Owen leaving)

2) We fall into the trap of feeling we're not worthy to challenge Manu, Arsenal & Chelsea. In other words we cease to think like a big club

This summer's acquisitions, both managerial and players, are ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL. I see this summer as being the biggest watershed for LFC since Kenny left, perhaps even more significant than then. Let's hope we get it right.

Perhaps we ceased to think like a big club when we appointed Evans. Trying to revive the old days was perhaps too much looking back and not enough looking forward. Neither Evans nor Houllier really had the credentials and I think having the right manager is very important, maybe more important than having good players and the wrong manager ie what possibly happened with Houllier

My two bigget fears for the reds are:

1)   The appointment of the manager is wrong. This is overlapping slightly, but this descision for the Liverpool board is the most important one they have had to make for 15 years. If we get the right man, we can move on and get ourselves into the "BIG THREE" and back amongst Europes elite. If the wrong man is brought in we could be set back and never ever recover, simply becoming an Everton or Villa or Spurs. I pray, (no really I have been having a few words with the big fella lately) we make the right choice.

2)   The fickle fans, you know who you are, expecting to win the league and CL double and go unbeaten in the league next season. I know you might think I am overdoing it here, but there are Liverpool fans who beleive it is our devine right to win, and we need only turn up. This when added to the obvious optimistic slant that a new manager will bring (following the well proclaimed need to change the manager), and the increased optimism of having £60m worth of Thai blood money (only kidding) to spend on talent, I fear that if we dont win games by a few goals, or lose a couple on the bounce the already over nervous crowd at Anfield will be come restless and get on the back of the players and management.
