Lack of money! - Even tottenham spend more.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I don't really care that Spurs and Newcastle are spending silly money comapred to us because a club like Spurs must be building a mountain of debts since they are not in Europe. Newcastle has a high revenue because they can fill some 52,000 Geordies every home games - the benefit of being the only EPL team in a city like Newcastle, whereas Spurs have a few neighbours neraby in north London (big and small). being the clubs that they are, perhaps they have to offer more money to tempt their transfer tatgets than the top 4.

These clubs are gambling in the transfer market with big transfers and if the situation persists - both failing to qualify for the CL following seasons, they will not be in the best of financial health, to put it mildly.

As for us, with Schevchenko and Ballack in the team, Chelsea will have to play a more open game than Mourinho's favoured pragmatic but tight 4-5-1. Schevchenko does not play upfront alone and always will have a partner alongside him - due to this, teams will have more of a chance to score against Chelsea. At least a costly-players packed Spurs will have more of a chance of taking points off Chelsea.

Bring on the new season.

I think this summer's business has been very impressive so far. We've clearly not blown our entire budget, but we've got bags of pacey talent for our money.

To be honest, I'd more more concerned if the club were going to the papers on a daily basis linking us with every player on the market. Business is clearly being done behind the scenes, and I still think there are two signings to come before the window closes.

As for Spurs, whether it's this season or next, players like Carrick will move on. To fund their big spending, they'll eventually have to sacrifice a star name like him, which will hurt their team massively.

Can you imagine us being in a situation where we absolutely had to sell Alonso or Gerrard to bring in new players?

Much better to build slowly but efficiently. I'm sure Rafa would love to have £50m left in the kitty, but he hasn't, so the club are going about their business coolly and calmly. If nothing more happens before the window closes, absolutely feel free to b*tch and moan. I think we'll all be reasonably pleased come kick off next season though. :)
