Champions league - Seedings

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

And so it all begins again, at least we got a bit more time off than last year, come on the 6th cup!!!

from bbcsport:

Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool will be among the top seeds for next season's Champions League but Chelsea have again missed out.
The Premiership champions will be among the second seeds despite the absence of Italian sides Juventus and AC Milan.

Beaten finalists Arsenal and 2005 champions Liverpool still need to qualify to take their place among the top seeds for the group phase.

Scottish champions Celtic will join Chelsea in the pot of second seeds.

The Blues now face the possibility of facing reigning champions Barcelona who knocked them out of last season's competition at the first knockout phase.

They missed out on a top seed in that campaign ensuring a difficult clash against the Catalans.

Juventus and AC Milan are set to appeal the punishments for Italy's match-fixing scandal which ruled that they could not compete in the tournament next term.

Chelsea could meet current champions Barcelona in the group stages

Even if their appeals are successful, the result would not affect the seedings of the British clubs.

The Italian FA is expected to announce on 25 July that Roma, Chievo and Palermo will join Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Should they qualify, Hearts are likely be one of the lowest seeds.

Uefa splits the 32 entrants into four pots of eight teams, divided according to their current European ranking.

Each group will contain one team from the top seeds, one from the second seeds, one for the third and one from the fourth.

The draw for the group stages will take place on 24 August in Monaco.

To be fair, though it is very funny it is a bit of a nonsense that Chelsea are not seeded. I've long held the notion that the powers that be haven't forgiven Mourinho for his disrespectful antics which indirectly led to the retirement of Anders Frisk and this annual slapping in the face, though being quite entertaining ought to be called time on in all probability.
Having said that, it is funny so feck em.

Chelsea aren't in the top 8 for a reason. The co-efficients are based on the last 5 years of football, and Chelsea have only competed (in the CL) in 3 of those 5 years.

Chelsea will probably be in the top 8 once those 2 years where they weren't involved are no longer used in the co-efficient.

I didn't know that.  Cheers.

I think Jose and his cheating boys got off very lightly for what they did to that ref.

I doubt Chelsea will give a sh1t if they're seeded or not, other than having to put up with derisory taunts from rivals. Two go through from each group and they still have every chance of topping their group even if they're not seeded.

I think your wrong there mate, they wouldnt fancy facing one of the top seeds again so early and possibly coming runners up in there group, that is what cost them so dear last year as if they had of won the group and faced Benfica they would probably have progressed.

A record speaks for itself, in recent history we have won the UEFA Cup, Champions League and 2 Super Cups, how many clubs can match that in the last 5 years?

And with a much smaller budget than Chelsh1t and Man Poo it is a great record

Hello Im not that fussed about the seedings.

I thik the champions league, jut like the world cup, only "starts" in phase 2.

How can we cope this term under pressure in the quarter finals? do we hve a squad, or was it a big mistake letting Hamann go?

I wouldn't be too bothereed either about the chelsea seedings if i was maureen. they have just signed Ballack, and the competition's greatest ever goalscorer!#

He's hardly wilting, is he!?

They will definately be in the final shake up.

But they could draw Barca again and Barca might knock them out again, so I think Maureen is very worried, afterall he said it didnt matter where they finished in last seasons group table, but as Luke has already said they probably would have beaten Benfica.
