LIVERPOOL VS WREXHAM - Start of a new season part 2

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

the process of the second goal is a 'prototype' of goal that we have to replicate throughout the coming season, it was a very good goal in terms of its effectiveness and simplicity; only involving two players before netted by bellamy.

Just seen Bellamys on Sky Sports news, it was exactly the type of goal he should score plenty of, a good pass in behind by Fowler and Bellamy ran on and finished accross the keeper.
One point i'd like to make straight away is the finish, LEFT FOOT, no shifting it back on to his stronger right, just first time left foot. I mentioned before we signed him that one of his qualities is that he will score goals with either foot. It will make it much harder for defenders to play against him and i am really optimistic if he stays clear of injuries for plenty of goals.

Yes me too. Im not expectin him to walk straight into the 1st team but he looks like he could be ready for a few 1st team performances. He showed good composure and can realy stickina  good cross. He picked out Hobbs really well at one point.

In fact Guthri and Hammil played really well as did Palletta but I think it was expected.

game went like this..........

14:14 GMT : Match Starts
1 min : Liverpool kick off and get their pre-season campaign underway
3 mins : It's Wrexham who enjoy most of the early possession
5 mins : GOAL! Paul Anderson: Riise crosses from the left and Anderson volleys home into the corner
7 mins : Buoyed by their goal, the Reds are knocking the ball around with confidence. Some good skill from Paletta on the far touchline brings cheers from the crowd.
9 mins : Bellamy makes a darting run and crosses to Zenden, who is tackled as he controls to shoot
11 mins : Riise again gets free on the left and his cross almost creates a second, but Idrizaj shoots wide
14 mins : A mix up in the Wrexham defence almost gifts Craig Bellamy a debut goal, but their goalkeeper recovers well to block Bellamy's shot and keep it at 1-0
16 mins : Wrexham are working their way into the game and Llewellyn has twice fired shots at Dudek's goal
19 mins : Riise is causing the Wrexham defence all sorts of problems and another cross from him leads to a chance for Hobbs, but he shoots wide
24 mins : Wrexham are trying hard to gain a foothold in the game, but Liverpool's new look defence is coping well
27 mins : The game has gone a gone a little flat, but it is Wrexham who are having most of the ball, albeit without looking too dangerous
31 mins : Another Riise cross causes problems for Wrexham and Hobbs is only narrowly wide with his header
35 mins : Wrexham threaten an equalizer when Matty Done volleys over when well placed at the far post.
42 mins : Good covering from John Arne Riise foils a Wrexham attack and it looks like Liverpool will take the lead given to them by Paul Anderson in the 5th minute into the break
44 mins : Bellamy is caught offside, but he will certainly have benefited from this his first 45 minutes of football this season
14:59 GMT : Half Time Reached
15:16 GMT : Second Half Begins
46 mins : Substitution: Robbie Fowler for Besian Idrizaj:
46 mins : Wrexham get the second half started. Liverpool have made 8 changes for the second half, but Bellamy is still on and he will now be partnered by Robbie Fowler in attack
46 mins : Substitution: Sami Hyypia for Gabriel Paletta:
46 mins : Substitution: James Smith for John Arne Riise:
46 mins : Substitution: Godwin Antwi for Steve Finnan:
46 mins : Substitution: Danny O'Donnell for Miki Roque:
46 mins : Substitution: Salif Diao for Boudewijn Zenden:
48 mins : Sinama Pongolle crosses from the left and the Wrexham goalkeeper just manages to gather the ball with Bellamy looking to pounce
46 mins : Substitution: Florent Sinama Pongolle for Paul Anderson:
46 mins : Substitution: Lee Peltier for Jack Hobbs:
50 mins : Wrexham apply some pressure and Pongolle has to clear from his own goal line
46 mins : Substitution: Michael Ingham for Mark Jones:
46 mins : Substitution: Marc Williams for Ryan Valentine:
52 mins : GOAL! Craig Bellamy: Bellamy nets his first for the Reds with a low left footed finish
57 mins : Substitution: Adam Hammill for Craig Bellamy:
57 mins : Substitution: Dennis Lawrence for Shaun Pejic:
61 mins : Craig Bellamy is enjoying a great reception from Liverpool fans as he warms down with a run around the pitch
63 mins : Substitution: Levi Mackin for Matt Done:
65 mins : Liverpool look comfortable despite all their changes and they look to be enjoying their first work out of the season
67 mins : Substitution: Robbie Threlfall for Danny Guthrie:
70 mins : Wrexham continue to knock the ball about without looking like they could score and it takes a good save from their goalkeeper to prevent Pongolle from making it 3-0
70 mins : Substitution: David Martin for Jerzy Dudek:
70 mins : Substitution: Jamie Reed for Neil Roberts:
79 mins : Fowler increases the volume with a run in which he beats a number of Wrexham defenders before laying the ball off
83 mins : A good run and shot from Adam Hammill is deflected onto the post by the Wrexham goalkeeper
86 mins : Many fans are beginning to leave as the game reaches it's climax
16:02 GMT : Match Over

100% agree

In two seasons weve gone from scraping a team at times to a powerful squad

I personally liked Bellamys reaction to the little kid running up to him.  Considering he has a bit of a "Star" reputation that doesn't talk to fans etc - Its refreshing to see his first encounter with a little kid.

As for helping Wrexham, I think it's great that a club like ours would let a lower league team have all the gate reciepts to help them out.  Football needs to be kept alive at all levels, anywhere...well - Maybe except old stratford :P

Craig Bellamy thanks idol Ian Rush for the kind words he said about the player in newspaper columns prior to him signing for Liverpool. The Welsh international striker hopes to emmulate even in a small way the great impact that Welsh strikers have had before him at Anfield.

"I used to hound Rushie all the time when I was 18 and 19 and around the Welsh squad.

"Basically I was telling him he was my hero, and he used to say 'yeah, cheers for that'. I was just a kid at the time, but he had a big part in me joining Liverpool.

"He has said some nice things about me in his newspaper columns, they came at the right time. I appreciate that. He was my hero as a kid and I cannot thank him enough.

"I am following some great Welsh strikers at Liverpool, my Wales manager John Toshack and Rushie.

"Hopefully if I can get anywhere near the status they both had at Anfield then I will be more than happy. Both have played a crucial part in my career."
