New signings - Who should we sign?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Puddlian Lane » Mon May 24, 2004 9:48 pm

With Houllier's reign now truly at an end, it is time for an overhaul. The question is, what players should Liverpool go for? Cisse and Smith have been heavily linked, and Larsson is a possibility. Barton was also mentioned and could well be a good addition to the midfield.
If I had to give a list of players to sign it would include the following(5 essential 1 could be useful):

Cisse - 4
Barton - 2
Smith - 3
Drogba - 5
Mexes - 5
Dawson - 4
Wright Phillips - 5
Hargreaves - 4
Jussie - 4
Robinho - 5    (if hasn't been signed yet!!!)
Kezman - 3
Tevez - 5
Yakubu - 4
Carrick - 3
van Bommel - 4
van der Vaart - 5
Emerson - 4        (roma are broke after all !!!)
Denilson/Joaquin - 5

There are some players to break the ice, keep the suggestions coming in....

None.

We should get a new manager first and let him decide.

Yakubu scored 17 league goals with a near relegated side and is a brilliant prospect for the future. Van Bommel is a top midfielder and is the only essential in the dutch midfield when available. Wright-Phillips was tremendous this season, and finally Dawson is an England future centre back without a doubt. As for Dyer and co. they ARE good players!!!

Benitez should be the new manager.

He should be allowed to sign one striker this summer and that is it. He shouldn't be given more than 10 million either. He would then have enough to easily finish 4th next season.

In that season he can assess his squad, find a system, find out his best players and use them to the best of there ability. He can also look at players like Biscan, Cheyrou, Smicer, Riise, Finnan and see why they haven't performed to their potential.

At the end of that season he'll have the knowledge to build on what we already have.

We all know Owen, Kewell, Gerrard and Hyypia are class, we all know how they play, but a new manager may not. He won't know Stevies exact game, he won't know that Owen is a different player than he used to be, he also might not know exactly how good Kewell was.

They also won't know how good Finnan, Riise, Carragher, Baros etc actually are.

They need to assess this before given the money to spend. Otherwise they'll start from scratch and thats something they shouldn't be allowed to do.... and also its something we know the fans won't let them do. As if after 5 years we haven't won the league he'll be out the door no matter what shape we are in.

When Houllier came here he knew alot about the club and players already and knew which ones weren't good enough, the new manager, weather its O'Neil, Curbishley or whoever will not have the same knowledge.

Thats a positive about Dalglish and Thompson...

No need to list all these players. Lots of shitty players in your list. This year we need quality, not quantity. Two midfielders, one striker and one or two defenders. I know Edgar Davids is available and he should be offered a contract. We need a big stron guy up front. Drogba or Cisse could be useful. If you think Dawson and Carrick will strenghten Liverpool think again.
If football is banned in heaven. I'd rather go to hell.

Dawson is a top notch defender than will excell himself and I cant wait to be proved correct. As for Carrick, he is the last jewell at West Ham and many considered him second to Cole and ahead of Lampard. He deserves to be in a top notch side to live up to the hype. I stand by the list, maybe Barton should be omiited, but the rest I satnd by, in particular Robinho.

How can you rate Drogba above Cisse.

A striker is all about goals, Cisse is top french league scorer above Drogba.

Right...

How the hell can we spectulate on new players untill we have a new manager and a new system?

We can't.

We need a system before we can progress. We can't say we need a pacey centre half as the tactics may once again suit Henchoz and Hyypia, we can't say we need another striker as we may only play 1 upfront from now on. We can't say we need a winger as we may go into a 3-5-2 formation which will mean we don't need wingers.

Its a pointless thread!!

For me Kluivert would be a fantastic signing, if he would sign that is.  Looking on Skysports Barca are looking to off-load him, surely the 14million set aside for Cisse would be more than enough to get him here! Him and Owen, ferking hell! what potential!!!!
