Benayoun in liverpool link - What?

West Ham midfielder Yossi Benayoun has been linked with a surprise move to Liverpool.

My immediate thought is, why would we pay what West ham would want for him, for what seemingly would be a back up role considering the talent we already have in his position. Hoping this is wrong.

I wouldn't have thought we'd be after him.

(Same could have been said for Crouch, though.) :D

I think Benayoun is just trying to create some press for himself

He played well in cup final and had a very good season with the Hammers but IMO is not the quality to be more than a peripheral player at Anfield.

You're having a laugh?

While he's not who i want and not the sort of player i want i find it laughable when people make comments like that.

The lads an excellent player with outstanding ability. He's not world class, but he's a damn site better than some of the players in our squad.

There are two types of fans on here at times ............

Those who write what they THINK they ought to and those that actually state their OWN opinion.

Too many dumb down unfashionable players like Benayoun because he's not at a fashionable club or cos someone in the pub said he was rubbish !  ???

Lets take the FA Cup Final ............He was a constant threat and Reo Coker and maybe Ashton apart their best player. One things for sure he was the best winger on the pitch by some considerable distance ...........

He is small, frail and is not a winger but is an attacking midfielder that can play on the right. Where is he going to become established ? If we want that type of player we should be looking at Aimar who is genuine class and would cost considerably less.

I think he would be a fringe player at the squad, but one that I would welcome from what I have read about him.  In the final I was impressed by him, and the way he used his pace to carry the ball, and take pressure off the defence.

Although I think this reflects the way in which Liverpool have been messed about over the players they really wanted, but I heard a while back that Rafa wanted this fella.  Consider this though, with the quality in our midfield, a player such Benayoun would be brillant.  He would have the support and the freedom to do what he needs to do, and he would bring balance to the team.

I like him too Mark and agree that he would be a valuable addition to the squad. Aimar's a dream Saint but at 3 or 4 times the price we have to be realistic and say he;'s not avaialble ........

What's people's fascination with Aimar on here? First, someone mentioning him when people are discussing replacing Didi. Now, when we're talking about a player who can play on the right wing.

Aimar is not the type of player we need, and it would be ridicuously stupid to mould LFC into a team that would suit him and revolve around him.  Most of you who keep on mentioning him when we're talking about useful additions to the squad, I would guess are just mentioning him because of his reputation rather than seeing him play regularly also.

Benayoun is prehaps 'substandard' to some considering the quality we have in the midfield, but he might just give that balance.  A yank (on Espn, I was in America during the WC. They haven't got a clue over there) commentator believed that Beckham offered nothing other than set-pieces, but the quality of the England midfield allowed for this, arguably carrying a 'substandard' player.  But this player offered attributes that the rest of the midfield never had.  Beckham offers world-class set-pieces but doesn't impress much in open play, were as I think Benayoun would be able to offer width and a few crosses from the right, something that the midfield at the moment can't.  (I don't want to discuss Gerrard on the right now, I understand the lad was good there last season, but prehaps he is not at his strongest there.)

Benayoun would cost about £8 - £11 million while Aimar would cost between £5 and £8million. I know Aimars wages would be outrageous but even so if we were looking for a player of this type I would go for Aimar every time. Quite honestly if we got Benayoun it would only be to play on rightside of midfield and there are plenty of others who are genuine wingers who I would prefer for that position. I obviously dont rate him as highly as you do as to me he would be just a squad player.

West Ham would want daft money.  It's a shame our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th........ targets have been priced out of our budget.

Yes Ben' can play on the wing but he is no winger. He cuts inside all the time when played out wide. The only reason the Hammers play him out wide is because he isnt strong enough to play more central in a physical league.
Aimar I have watched since he was playing in argentina and I have always admired him and wanted him to come to Liverpool. Maybe  he wouldnt be right for Liverpools style and formation but I still think he is class.
