Zidane - Goodbye to a legend

International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

Postby EddieC » Sun Jul 09, 2006 8:54 pm

The term 'world class' is used to describe many players, too many IMO.

ZZ is one who truly lived up to the label, a player who can change the course of a game with one bit of magic that leaves you thinking 'How the f*ck did he do that?'

My personal favourite will always be the winner against Leverkusen in the CL Final a few years back. The only goal that surpasses it for technique & timing is Stevie's winner in the FA Cup.

Farewell Zidane, you've stood head & shoulders above the rest for years, and this WC you've proved that class is permanent.

Should've waited until after the game to post this, shocking behaviour by ZZ.

Wonder what Matterazi said for him to react like that?

Yeah, truly bizarre.  :no

But, did you notice?  Even his head-butts are "world class"!  Technique, power and passion all brought to bear on Mattarazzi's chest!  Absolute legend!   :bowdown  :D

Dunno about that Bob, as it was Italian player its hard to tell how much power it takes to drop them  :D

Class player, very sad that he bows out that way in moment of madness on the biggest stage

That's the part I dont get.

I think Zidane forgot Materazzi was Italian.

He could've used his pinky finger and he still would have gotten sent off!  :D

France lost France the World Cup, not Zidane, they had 90 minutes in which to win the game, they just couldn't break Italy down and take their chances.

And losing your most influencial player through sheer stupidity had no influence on the game?

Not only playing the remainder of the game with 10 men but also losing your number one penalty taker??

I think its pretty clear that most of the blame lies with one player

Zidane should be disappointed, but no one team should rely so heavily on one player but a handful at the very least. The fact France had rested all their hopes on Zidane's shoulders, shows volumes of where French football is heading.

Agreed. France should never of relied so heavily on him but the fact still remains that Zidane getting sent off effectively ruined their chances of lifting the World Cup

it was always going to penalties even if zizou had got sent off.

What a way to go, not many people are talking about Italy winning but about the way in which zizou went out.
