I think it'll be good news for LFC, once Aurelio is confirmed. Riise has been a very good player, but I'm not sure we've any other top class options in that position. As long as Traore goes I'll be happy the left back area's in good hands.

I prefer Riise as Left Midfield - but with Traore or Warnock as our cover last season it was
seldom an option.

I prefer him to Kewell.
I think he's more consistent, intelligent, more heart. Plus he can TW.AT it like no other
(except Stevie G).

your havin a laugh. Riise is no good at Left Mid except for the occasional goal. Kewell is much better.

much better is harsh on Riise hes been pretty solid wherever hes played Kewell has it all to do and must perform more consistently

I agree Kewell is better on the left flank, then again Kewell is a winger, but Kewell is always injured, so therefore Riise or Gonzalez will probably spend most of the time playing on the left flank.

Riise is class and will always be. I see Aurelio and him alternating in different matches on the left. Rafa will let Riise keep his place first IMO, and let Aurelio have a piece of the action now and then to see if he can fit into the Prem's style of play. If he proves himself, then the most likely scenario will be rotation.

2) In your opinion, what is Riise's best position?

3) What is(are) Riise's chief contribution(s) to the club?

4) Long term, do you see Riise as a squad player or as a starter?

5) As one of the club's 'bankable assets', should the board look to cash in on Riise now in order to help finance the title challenge or do you feel that Riise will play a vital role in any title challenge?

1) Depends. Left back is our weakest point at the back, and Rafa is clearly not 100% happy with it and you can tell by the fact that last season he kept chopping and changing between Riise, Warnock and Troare, compared to Reina, Finnan, Hyypia, Carragher who started almost all games. Assuming Fabio Aurelio is going to be given a chance to be our first choice left back, Riise’s place is under threat, if Aurelio settles in quickly and does well then Riise could find him self on the bench for most of the season, if on the other hand Aurelio struggles to fit in to the defence then Riise will could be first choice for much of the season. My guess is that in a season were we might play roughly 60 games Riise will start somewhere between 30-45.

2) As a left back he is positionaly week, too one footed and a poor passer. As a left winger he is too one footed, one dimensional, a poor passer. He has limitationions in his game that will never be overcome but he has a lot of good qualities that shouldn’t be ignored, a fine athlete, determined character, high work rate, good shot, good crosser, etc. Ideally he would be a wing back, but not many teams play that way.

3) Riise can be called a genuine Liverpool player, he loves the club and will work his socks off for the badge and the fans, and he is part of the furniture here, versatile and professional.

4) If we are looking to build an extremely strong side that will challenge Chelsea then Riise is not good enough to be first choice left back or left midfielder. Maybe a few years ago, but the standards are getting so high.

5) NO WAY! You don’t sell players like Riise, even if he isn’t first choice he will still get 30+ starts and will be a very valuable player. The squad wins you the title, Riise is a professional who will do his best when called upon, would be silly to sell him for finances.
