jedwards, houllier was not a lousy buyer of players.

Sami Hyypia from Willem II £2.6m
Stephane Henchoz from Blackburn £3.5m
Sander Westerveld from Vitesse Arnhem £4m
Dietmar Hamann from Newcastle £8m
John Arne Riise from Monaco £4m
Milan Baros from Banik Ostrava £3.4m
Jerzy Dudek from Feyenoord £4.85m
Chris Kirkland from Coventry £6m
Anthony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama Pongolle from Le Havre £6m
Steve Finnan from Fulham £3.5m
Harry Kewell from Leeds £5m

These are all decent signings, some very good.

I agreed with the decision of letting Gh go, but think he deserves respect he did well here but could not take us that extra step in the last 2 seasons.

Stu , whilst i agree with a lot of what you are saying regarding GH's departure I cannot agree with your obscene and offensive comments to people who don't agree with you.

If you really want to be taken seriously in here then I suggest you refrain from such comments and to be honest you won't be here too much longer using such defamotory and insulting posts ......

On the GH departure, I'm very sad to see him go as he brought discipline, respect and dignity back to LFC not  to mention 6 trophies and attracted top players to this club. Its because many of these top players haven't performed that GH has ultimately lost his job and many of these players might find they lose theirs too under a new maanger !

In the final analysis the board lost faith in GH's ability to spend this new money well after his disastrous transfer dealings in the summer of 2002 (Diouf, Diao and Cheyrou). Those signings have cost us much more than the £20 million in terms of progression and challenging for the title. Summer 2003 he fared a lot better and i think Finnon, Le Tellac, pongolle and Kewell will priove to be astute signings.

Like Stu I fear for the future and in many ways this next appt is absolutly critical to the future of Liverpool FC.

Now av calmed down it was a pretty horrible remark, but some of the stuff said about Houllier is just as bad and degrading.

It was intended for the people who question Houlliers passion and commitment to the cause. He nearly died for this club and that still didn't stop him giving his all!! Maybe in the end it wasn't quite good enough, we'll never know if he could have turned it round.

What i said was a bad thing to say and was well out of order but in defence it pisses me off when people like to see our club in this state and like to see our manager "fail" for personel glorification, then have the cheek to question my passion for the one thing on this earth i truely love.

Theres 4 things in this life people can get to me about, My parents, my dog and MY CLUB!!!

Is that meant to be a f.ucking apology???

Pathetic.

He did turned us around...from title contender a few seasons ago to merely a mid-tabled team. Getting into CL next season was a fluke because of inconsistence teams like Newcastle, Charlton, Villa etc. If any of them could string together some good results, we will have a hard time just to qualify for UEFA Cup. Changes are much needed. As much as I do not like to see manager being sacked, we do desperately need to stem the rod and move forward. You can stay loyal to Houllier, you have plead your case, many of us disagree with you and you are the clear minority here. Now it's time to move on. Think...maybe you are wrong huh?

stu your sad pathetic comments are a joke.
I am far from happy I am ecstatic as we can now look forward with some hope at long last.
I for one have never questioned houlliers passion or commitment but it was obvious to me and many others that he simply was not good enough for this once mighty club.
He has broken many records over the last 2 seasons all of which have gone way below standards and only sympathy for the man you love has kept him in a job till now.

The new manager should IMO be a younger guy with fresh ideas who can get us playing flowing attacking football.
The way to win matches is by scoring goals but was something houllier didnt quite grasp.
It is great to watch but way more importantly it gets results.
I would love to see O Neill as he is the man for the job and I have been saying so for the last 2 seasons. We have a perfect opportunity to grab the best young british manager by a country mile.
All this talk of his formation and style of play is ridiculous as it gets results and I also think if he gets the job will not be stupid enough to get the lads playing long ball stuff.

I dont think Curbishley is remotely as good and it would be a mistake giving him the job.
If not MON then I would happily see Benitez or Mourinho in that order.
They could both bring players with them from their present clubs which could not be said about MON.
Valencia's players would be perfect for this club and I would love to see Ayala,Aimar,Vicente and Baraja wearing the red shirt.
Porto's better players Deco,Ferreira,Maniche and Carvallaho are very good but nowhere near as polished as the Valencia players.
Also with Benitez it makes the chances of us signing Jaoquin alot greater with him IMO being the best right winger in the world and he would be a huge player for us and exactly what we need.
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.

I don't get why Stu is so upset.

I am sure many Liverpool fans are thankful to Houllier for his passion and efforts to move Liverpool forward.

I don't believe "happy" is quite the right word, it is more like relieved as Houllier has clearly taken Liverpool as far as he possibly can and does not warrant any more chance because of the lot of financial and non-financial support given to him (much more transfer money than any other Liverpool managers before him).

It is time for him to go, and I dearly hope that the club's top management listen to the fans and choose the next manager wisely. Liverpool is more than about just winning games and trophies, it has something to do with an acceptable playing style to the fans and a fairplay as well.

Well anfieldadorer, it just goes to show that most of us are a frustrated lot with the results and the mediocre performance of Liverpool under Houllier.

We have realised for 2 years that the team is going nowhere and the vast transfer splashed on Diouf, Diao and Cheyrou are a total waste. Most of us were hoping Houllier would have been sacked at the end of the last campaign after failing to qualify for the Champions' League, not one year too long from just yesterday.

We did not really hate him, we just don't understand why Moores and Parry kept him and gave him funds to buy Kewell and Finnan. It should have been "OK Gerrard, your time's up. Thanks for all your effort." The 6th year should have never happened.

Liverpool's fans are an incredibly tolerant lot, and Houllier has got so much tolerance. he should not complain.

i just don't understand why Stu gets so upset. Houllier has tried and failed. maybe he stayed on for a little too long. he has gone, with a good termination compensation. Most of us are relieved. Life goes on...

I'm closing this and another thread down as they have completely degenerated into abuse.

pulled from the archives
just to reflect on similarities to the end of Houlliers reign and calls for a new manager on newkit, albeit tenuous similarities as we finished 4th..30 points behind Arsenal and at the moment we are 2nd & 5 points behind the leader.
There are certain members on here who feel even winning the league is not enough to secure Rafa's future because it would only have been through sheer luck

Still this small topic makes for a little light entertainment although be warned Stu (guest), had a wicked mouth then as he does now.   ???
