totally agree mate, but at that point i think portugal were getting a bit worried.
between when sven took beckham off and rooney getting his marching orders i think england played their best stuff of the tournament.
when gerrard took the corner that beckham would normally fire into the first defender he dipped a wicked cross into lampard who fired over from about 10 yards out.
then after a mazy run by lennon, a bit of luck and an air shot by rooney joe cole blasted over from about 7 yards, and then frank lampard had a free kick that would normally be taken by dave ` 1 goal in 3 years` beckham that their keeper fumbled and caused more panic in their back four.
the portugese targetted rooney`s temprement but it does seem ironic that rooney got his marching orders for a push (the ref had no intention of getting even a yellow card out for the stamp) when figo throws the head in on van bommel and gets away scott free.
to be fair to the likes of john terry and rio ferdinand, love em or hate them they kept up the proud tradition of english backs to the wall defending against the odds and they deserve their place alongside fella`s like terry butcher and tony adams who may not be beckenbauers but they are gutsy.
i think ferdinands a posing so and so but to be fair to the lad he fronted up when he was called upon, his tackle on evertons nuno valente was out of the tommy smith handbook.

Terry yes, but Ferdinand?  You must be joking mate.  I was impressed with Ferdinand's tackle on Valente too, but the fact that I was also surprised when the replay showed it was actually Ferdinand that made the tackle says it all really.  The guy's a pussy-footing ponce and shouldn't be in an England shirt imo.  Not aggressive enough.  He just gives the impression that he doesn't give a feck, which is why I was also surprised to see him gurning his lamps out at the end of the shoot out.

ferdinand played well, so did ashley cole, infact cole was constantly left one on one without any back up against figo, simao and ronaldo and it is to coles credit that none of them got any change out of him.
i`m not a particular lover of anything to do with united ( understatement) and ferdinands `wind up` t.v show worked a treat because it really wound me up, the lad is a wannabe plastic yank from the `projects` and socially we are from opposite sides of the table i.e he`s flash and in your face and i`m not.
but terry and ferdinand totally negated portugals dangerous attackers today to the point england looked the more dangerous side with ten men.

I agree with most of what you're saying mate, I agree that Ferdinand and Terry played well today, but to say that both of them, and Ferdinand in particular, is up there with Butcher and Adams in terms of guts is just a little over the top imo.  In general I don't think Ferdinand is a player who particularly likes getting stuck in.  Over the whole tournament I think he performed slightly better than Terry, but I still rate about 3 or 4 English centre halves above Ferdinand at the moment, including Terry.  The sooner Ferdinand realises he's a footballer and not 'Snoop Dawg' the better.

Agree,where was Terry or Neville?

Carra shouldnt have been put in that position, the "leaders" of the team should have stepped up.

On the managerial question,England have fuc.ked up badly.

Hiddink,Scholari or O'Neill would have been better choices than McClaren.

oh without looking at the link i`m pretty sure you`ll find instances of british players cheating but the point is its the exception, not the whole culture.
its in your culture to cheat, i`m not a particular fan of wayne rooney but his push on ronaldo was that of a lad who couldnt believe a so called mate would do that to him.
to you lot its the norm because in sport (i`m not sure about life in general) its okay to roll around on the floor without getting touched and its okay to stab your mates in the back.
good luck in the semi`s, the portugese produce some fantastic footballers but at the end of the day you are a bunch of cheats and we can discuss this until we are blue in the face but the fact will remain.
by culture  portugese footballers are cheats.

Yeah i wondering that though not sure who was taking the fifth penalty but i was rather surprised to see JC stepping up.
Considering all that great talent which had kept him out of the side was standing in the centre circle
