why can we not just agree a price and get him???

I think that Rafa's cunning is working against him as other teams know he has more up his sleeve than he is letting on!!!

It is so annoying that a team that has spent money like Michael Carroll cannot find the extra funds for this guy!!!

I will be so peeved if he ends up going to Barcelona/Real Madrid!!!

Not that I blame Rafa though as he is a god!!!

On one hand yes but on the other it means they can hold you to ransom!!

So what do you want him to do? Tell them from the begging that we have loads of money to spend so that they set a high fee straight away?

Off course not, Rafa has a price for every player and he will not go over it, value for money is what we need.

Clearly Sevilla are just being tw@ts here, they're probably still annoyed with Benitez for pinching Barragan off them last summer - I can't imagine that has helped make negotiations any smoother.

At the end of the day though, they can't realistically keep the player against his wishes. 

Sevilla will be the ones who regret it if the deal falls through.  Alves will be unhappy with them and they probably won't get the best out of him on the pitch.  Subsequently his value will depreciate and they'll wish they took the 10 million on offer.  Benfica are realising something similar right now in the case of Simao I think.

13/06/06: Sevilla president Jose Marie Del Nido: “We don’t want to sell him but when a player wants to leave you can’t force him to stay.

“He has told us he likes Liverpool’s offer though he isn’t pressuring us.

“They have come back to us with a new offer but we have rejected it.”

Sevilla are rumoured to want in the region of £12m for him.

11/06/06: Alves has been frequently linked for a couple of weeks and is said to be high on Rafa’s wanted list, just the fee Seville are asking seems a problem. Cisse’s injury could affect this one.

Verdict: We are told the deal is ready to be completed, and that the contract has been agreed with the player, Liverpool won’t pay more than 8m though..

Looks like he is on his way. If we get him for 8mil its a good piece of business by rafa.

Just heard that alves will be unveiled on sat with aurellio.A fee has been agreed in region of 9m. So at last its all sorted, was heard during last 20min on talk sport.

Just another striker now and we are sorted.........

Villa is the name being mentioned now in spain!!! He is desperate to join his mates at Liverpool especially Reina as he is best mates with him.....

Great news on the Alves front. Won't hold my breath on the Villa rumour. We can but dream. That would be awesome.  :D

Villa signing would cap off an excellent summer for us on the transfer market. Provided our players return to preseason fit we will have a squad ready to challenge for the premiership!

I thought Villa had just signed an extension with Valencia.

We will have to pay more than 18 million for this guy.... :down:
