Because we don't have a bottomless pit of money.

Torres sits down for 78 minutes, Fred is a cert to fall on his ar*e in England, and at least one would cost in excess of £25m

You have to be sensible.

Good point Lando! (about the soon-to-be required British content in top-flight teams)

On another issue...

Clearly, if and when he does sign, the Bellamy threads on this board are going to be long and bloody.  Both sides are already digging in and hurling the abuse.

I've already stated the reasons why I'm in favour of us signing Bellamy but I can certainly understand some people's reservations given his attitude issues and injury problems in the past.

Do people--on both sides of the debate--have to get so pissy about this issue though?  Bottom line, for some he represents proven premiership quality and good value for money (hard to argue that).  For others, he represents dodgy temperament and an injury risk (also hard to argue based on past experience).  Different people are going to weigh the pluses and minuses differently but I think it's riduculous to start the name-calling so soon on this one.  It was one thing with Cisse, who I think had done enough to convince most that he wasn't good enough over the two years but we've not seen Bellamy in a red shirt yet so it's impossible to say who'll be right.  So, let's keep things civil people...there's a long way to go with this story yet!

Rant (or more precisely: 'Appeal for respectful discussion') over! :D

As rumours are going Lyon look the most likely team to sign Cisse, so why can't a deal be drawn up to bring the young talented Brazilian Striker to Anfield...where such talent belongs!?  Any views?   :nod  :D

Actually, mate, Mareseille rather than Lyon have the inside track on Cisse.  They're arriving in Liverpool today to tie up a loan deal with a view to a permanent move once Cisse's recovered.

As for Fred, IMO he'd be a much greater gamble than Bellamy.  As Cisse has demonstrated, scoring for fun in France does not mean you can succeed in England.  Just because he's Brazilian does not mean he'll storm the premiership and help us to the title.

I've forgotten the past. When Bellamy pulls on that red shirt he's playing for my team and I will stand by him and give him all the support he needs. What he's done a few year ago is no concern of mine.

C'mon Bellamy, give us some goals!

Speaking of (sorry for meandering off topic)...

Saw an interesting little tidbit in the latest "National Geographic"--which has a large section on the World Cup and the appeal of "soccer" ( ) world-wide.

Apparently, FIFA has 210 member nations vs 191 for the UN!!!

Football...the great unifier! (Maybe there should be FIFA peace-keepers who show up in war-zones with a footy ball, some goals and some d!pshit referee from Lesser Antilles ready to brandish cards like confetti!  That'll sort things out in places like Cyprus! :D )

I like it!  Although "footsoldier football" makes me think of the fookin' mercenaries that Chelsea keep signing!

Which, in turn, makes me think of how great it's gonna feel when we knock them off their perch this season.  Especially if Bellamy does the business against them and gets them right wound up!

There...back on topic!   :D

His finishing is not great and he just dosnt score enough goals to warrant a place at Liverpool. We need an out and out goalscorer, Bellamy isnt one, he's a partner for someone. Personally i dont think he has any more abilty then Pongolle.

Like Baros but more pace ?

What are you on mate. He is a far superior striker to Baros.

is he? well see

Bellamy has pace and thats it, he is not a good finisher, injury prone and rarely gets his eyes up from looking at his feet. We can do better, and i hope to god he is not the only striker we get.

Bellamy's just a chancer with a bad attitude.  It is not worth disrupting our squad morale and ethics to accomodate him.  Everyone knows he is a trouble maker, I just hope and pray that Rafa does not get sucked in by his sales pitch.  Bent or preferably Defoe for me, steer clear of this little :censored:.

The little welsh git will keep the bench warm and might get a run out if :bowdown gets injured.  Sell him on in 12 months time when everyone gets fed up of his big-time charlie antics.  I heard that one or two of his Rovers colleagues will be glad to see the back of him.  :help

If he can control his tendency to be a knobhead, then yeah, I think he'd be alright at LFC.
