Agreed, I'm not interested in Bellamy's private life and what he does off the field, I'm more interested in what he does on the field. I don't think a player should be over looked because he's had a wild off the pitch lifestyle. George Best had a wild off the pitch life, didn't stop him being one of the best players I've ever seen.

And some ppl are saying he doesn't score against big sides, well to be fair, he hasn't ever had good service at Newcastle or Blackburn. Would Owen have scored all of those goals he has, had he been playing for Blackburn and a poor Newcastle side? I think not.

Bellamy is ready to step up to the big stage and at £6million that's a bargain.

Did some research of my own on this one and just for the record...

Bellamy didn`t play against us at Anfield, nor against Man U at Ewood Park in the league nor against Man U in the Carling Cup.

You`ve already noted his two goals against Chelsea in a 4-2 loss at Stamford Bridge. But let`s see how he fared against the other top four sides. Here are some excerpts from match reports on Soccernet:

1) Man Utd 1, Blackburn 2 (Sept. 24, 2005)

On days like these, it is a wonder why anyone would risk falling out with Craig Bellamy. The Wales striker was a menace to United's defence throughout. The only pity for Blackburn was that he was the man providing the chances, rather than getting the opportunity to finish them off. On three separate occasions, Bellamy's strike partner Paul Dickov found himself in a one-on-one confrontation with Edwin van der Sar. Every time he came off second best.

2) Arsenal 3, Blackburn 0 (Nov. 26, 2005)

However, Blackburn started to pose serious problems for Arsenal's defence, with Bellamy emerging as their chief tormentor, while Shefki Kuqi and Morten Gamst Pedersen also came close.

Bellamy forced Lehmann into a smart reaction save with a snap-shot, before Toure headed his follow-up effort over the bar and the Welshman also nipped ahead of Toure to divert a long ball by Lucas Neill just past the post...

...Hughes brought on David Thompson to replace Brett Emerton, but it was still Bellamy who remained his side's main threat, clipping the outside of the post with a header from Pedersen's cross.

Lehmann was nevertheless equal to the Blackburn challenge, tipping Pedersen's inswinging corner over the bar, twice foiling Thompson and then racing out to beat Bellamy to a through-ball.

3) Blackburn 1, Arsenal 0 (Feb. 25, 2006)

The Gunners' majestic Champions League victory against Real Madrid in midweek seemed a million miles away as Pedersen side-footed home from close range in the 18th minute after Craig Bellamy had out-muscled Philippe Senderos to get to the byline.

Granted, he did fook all against us at Ewood park in April but that`s to be expected with our defense!

Point is, Bellamy had a tremendous impact against the big clubs last season, even when he didn`t get on the scoresheet so I don`t think he`s another Cisse--giant killer against the minnows but out of his depth against talented sides.

I take your point Badbob but if you look at his Epl record a goal every 4 games is not great ( less than 10 per season)+ his assists record is P*ss poor as well. A decent striker should get about 1 in every 2.5 games in my opinion. I know he is at a bad club now but at Newcastle he was playing with one of the best strikers in England(past his best but still....) Attitude problems/Injury prone/cant score/ doesnt score against good sides/ not a great recommendation really.

the diffrence is Anelka had huge talent, and had done the business for Arsenal before. Bellamy is no where near as good, and isnt worth the risk IMO.

im still neutral abt the idea of bellamy wearing liverpool colours. after all, every transfer has its risks, even 'surefire' ones like ballack and shevshenko.

remember this forum was ablaze with a thousand and one ppl's views and perspectives before, during and after crouch's arrival. some changed their views after watching him play 10 games (which he didnt score) some changed their views after watching him play 20 games and some changed their views after the season ended.

erm.. well, what im trying to say is that all we can do at the moment is just cross our fingers and trust rafa's judgement. I cant say for sure if bellamy will work out here in liverpool if he did come over but i know for certain that if rafa buys him, it means that he fits into his plans and is the type of striker he needs, and not because he represents good value at a 6mil buy out clause in his contract. i dunno abt houllier but rafa is not the type of manager who buys players on reputation and one or two good games alone. If rafa wants to buy a player, it means that him and his scouting brigade has been watching the player for a long time and came to a conclusion that the player will strenghten the existing squad in some way or other.

till bellamy actually joins us and plays a handful of games in our colous, the verdict is still open for him. afterall, different players perform differently playing for different clubs and managers.

Bellamy was fantastic this day. He gave Senderos fits the entire game and beat Senderos to the by line and put it right on Pedersen's foot.

Wasn't Bellamy injured almost the entire first half of the season? He was superb during the second half and I kept thinking that a big club should take a chance on him. Point is that he is quality. I rate him higher than every striker in the league save Rooney, Crespo, Robbie Keane, Henry, Owen, and maybe RVN. He will not disapoint.

That pretty much hits the nail on the head. Any mouth from Bellamy on the pitch and Carra, Stevie and the entire Kop will be all over him. Any trouble off it and Rafa will move him on. I'm still not completely convinced (but warming ot the idea)but the poster who drew comparisons with the Crouch transfer last season has a point. There will be plenty of fans who would prefer not to see Bellamy at the club but at the end of the day it's pretty hard not to trust a manager who has brought the European Cup and FA Cup to Anfield in just two seasons. I trust the Captain of our ship.
