Van Nistelrooy is dream land mate. If we did get him then I would be delighted. OK, he is maybe not our fans favourite at the moment but if he did sign and scored goals (like he would be guaranteed to do) then I am sure we would all start to take a liking to him. I can't see Man Utd selling him to us but we can live in hope. I think that if he has fallen out with Sitr Alex and is sold he may look to seek revenge by staying in the premiership and score the goals that stops Man Utd win the league, FA Cup etc etc

Hey, don't shoot the messenger...  I did say in my post I can't see it happening.

In short, I would prefer RVN to Bellamy as he is a better all round player, but I think
1.  He will cost us a lot more than £6 mill
2.  His wages will be higher than Bellamy
3.  Fergie will not sell him to us

I don't care that he is currently a Man U player.  He is quality and head and shoulders better than any of our current strikers.

Can't see it happening though!
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Liverpool have reportedly tabled a £6m bid for Blackburn Rovers striker Craig Bellamy.
The Welsh international has got an exit clause in the contract that will prevent Rovers from blocking the Reds interest in the 25-year-old.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is believed to have concerns about Bellamy's off-field conduct, but this is outweighed by the contribution it is felt he could make to the side.
Bellamy scored 17 goals for Rovers last season following a £5m switch from Newcastle United last July.

Consider the money we've spent on strikers/forwards in the past and you decide where you think the value for money line should be drawn. Certainly those at the top end of the money spent would have most question marks over them

Cisse £14m
Heskey £11m
Diouf £10m
Collymore £8.5m
Crouch £7m
Morientes £6.3m
Luis Garcia £6m
Bellamy £6m?
Baros £3.6m

Owen and Fowler cost nothing between them. You could class Kewell as a forward (£5m?)
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

Cisse £14m    SHOCKING WASTE OF MONEY -
Heskey £11m   GREAT FIRST SEASON, THEN GOT STEADILY WORSE & PLAYED OUT OF POSITION BY GED
Diouf £10m       WORST SIGNING EVER MADE BY OUR CLUB - VALUE £2 MILLION
Collymore £8.5m  OVERPRICED, BAD ATTITUDE -
Crouch £7m          AT THE MOMENT A SNIP, ONE OF THE BEST GOALS/GAMES IN INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL :)
Morientes £6.3m     AT THE TIME SEEMED LIKE A BARGAIN.. AH WELL?
Luis Garcia £6m       OFFERS A LOT, BUT DOES ANNOY - IM HAPPY TO HAVE PAID £6 MILL
Bellamy £6m?          COULD DO WORSE - FAIR PRICE???  WHO KNOWS
Baros £3.6m           LOOKS LIKE A GOOD DEAL WHERE I AM STANDING

If anyone has read 'A season on the brink' (which gives good insight into Benitez's management), then they will know that Bellamy is a player who would certainly interest Benitez.  He likes his forwards to drop deep when we're not in possession and fight for the ball (something he couldn't believe our strikers didn't do when he arrived at the club), but also to be able to link play well.  He also recognises the fact that aggressive players are an absolute must to succeed in the premiership.  Bellamy has all of these qualities imo.

My one concern about Bellamy is not his temperament (which I believe the influence of our coaching staff, Gerrard, Carra etc would soon sort out - and also the fact Bellamy is coming to the age where he should be mature enough to avoid that nonsense), but his goalscoring record.  One good goalscoring season in the premiership isn't fantastic imo, but you could also argue Norwich and Coventry didn't give him the platform to fully show his talent and that he was badly managed at Newcastle.

He is undoubtedly a risk, but by the sounds of it we have to watch the pennys this summer, so at 6-7 million would Bellamy represent 1) an improvement in our striking department? and 2) value for money?  The answer to both is yes imo.  However I still think he is only one of 2 signings we need to make up front this summer.  Crouch, Fowler, Bellamy and an injured Cisse??  Not enough imo.  We need someone else too, which is why 6-7 million for one striker who can do a job is good business imo.

In short, we are in dire need of pace up front (and no, sorry Cisse lovers but the frenchman is not the answer) and Bellamy fits the bill.  This situation reminds me of the Crouch signing last summer.  Many of us didn't fancy him then (granted for different reasons than Bellamy) but he proved us wrong.  I wouldn't be surprised if Bellamy proved us wrong (although I'll go on record right now as saying I certainly don't like the guy).

His goalscoring record is actually quite good. The problem is, he hasn't played enough games over the past five years due to niggling injuries.

2001-2002

Games played:21
Goals:13

2002-2003

Games played:35
Goals:10

2003-2004

Games played:25
Goals:11

2004-2005

Games played:46
Goals:20

2005-2006

Games played:29
Goals:19

Total games played:156
Total goals:73

Goals Per Game:2,13 (Ratio of David Villa is 1.86GPG- 114 games 61 goals)

So we can pay 6 million for Bellamy or an absolute small fortune for Villa. Make your choice.
