Not under Rafa.

He paid over the odds once, and even Mori came for a low fee when you consider he was the hottest Champions' League striker at that time.
We had no choice but to make a loss on him, as his wage was preventing us from paying for a new striker.

It's swings and round-abouts mate.

Look at our main rivals over the last few years, The Scum.

Bought Veron for £28m, sold him for £17m.
Paid £30m for Ferdinand, and wouldn't get a 3rd of that back now.
Sh*tstilrooy - bought for £19m, looks like being sold for less than half that.
Kleberson - Paid about £4-6m. What a shocking waste of money HE was!
Tiabi - £4m dud.

The list is endless.

We aren't as bad as a lot of people like to make out.

Houllier WAS shocking for buying at a premium, then selling for a pittance (or at least leaving them for Rafa to sell).
Had the Frenchman bought players for their true value, we'd be in a much healthier position.

Point taken mate,i never take intrest in other teams so when you look at the Scums signings and some of Shitskis for that matter we aint all bad.

It's called being prudent and intelligent with the cash available. Rafa's transfer dealings thus far have largely been very successful. Ok Mori, Kromkamp and Josemi might not but in the whole they have been excellent.

I reckon Rafa has his signings done and dusted and will announce (like he did with Xabi, Luis etc) them all at once after the World Cup.

When players are bought by clubs, the clubs aren't really looking at just how much they are going to sell them off next time. They are also looking at how much these players can help them earn money either by getting the club through promotion, cup finals, or european competition. As long as those are achieved, the players' cost can be offset already.

So why aren't clubs offering to buy Zidane from Real for £48m?

Ofcourse clubs look at potential sell-on value.

From Skysport:

The agent of Daniel Alves has confirmed Liverpool's interest in the Sevilla star and insists his client only has eyes for a switch to Anfield.

The Reds have been monitoring the Brazilian full back for some time and have already seen a couple of bids for him rejected.

Talks between the two clubs are ongoing with Sevilla reportedly holding out for around £10 million, but the player's agent believes a deal will ultimately be thrashed out.

Indeed, Jose Rodriguez Baster revealed that, despite the interest of other clubs, Alves has set his heart on a move to Merseyside.

"I can say that, without any doubts, the player wants to go to Liverpool," Baster stated.

"Personally I have not listened to any other club, although some have rung and I have passed them on to Sevilla, but what Daniel wants to is to play for Liverpool.

"The two sides (Liverpool and Sevilla) are getting closer, we are still quite a way apart, but if the president of Sevilla has said this (that Sevilla are resigned to losing him), who am I to contradict it.

"Daniel was not looking to leave Sevilla, but there are times when - without actually having forced the issue - you want to improve yourself.

"Daniel is very happy here with the fans, the club and with everything, but every player in the world always wants to play for a bigger club, it's not that Sevilla aren't big.

"I don't think I can give a timescale for this because there are differences, but we'll see."

From The Daily Post (icliverpool):

THE agent of Daniel Alves has put added pressure on Sevilla to sell him by declaring that the player only wants to play for Liverpool.

The Spanish side have resisted the advances from Anfield for their Brazilian right-sided player, slapping a £12million price tag on him which had looked set to price Rafael Benitez out of the market.

Interest in the Brazilian from Real Madrid and Barcelona has also persuaded Sevilla to insist that they are in no rush to sell the player until someone matches their valuation.

But Alves's agent Rodriguez Baster says that the two clubs are getting closer in their valuation of the player, with Sevilla seeming likely to make £10million their next asking price.

Liverpool, however, want to hold out for £8million until they can raise funds form possible sales of other players, but Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has revealed that they have opened talks with Liverpool because of Alves' ambition to join them.

"I can say that, without any doubts, the player wants to go to Liverpool," Baster said.

"Personally I have not listened to any other club, although some have rung and I have passed them on to Sevilla, but what Daniel wants to is to play for Liverpool.

This is all well and good, but we've been here before with Simao, Figo, etc. What I want to know is this:

What squad number will he get?
:D
