Rush all the way.  Remember the season he knocked in 50 for us in all comps!  Happy days!  Dalglish was obviously a more complete footballer but pure putting the ball in the net was Rush.  Fowler's more talented than Owen but Owen won't waste it and he'll end up Englands top scorer of all time.  Of course, I'm forgetting Titi Camara???

Owen is statistically better.
But it's Fowler I fancy more.

Oddly I think Fowler was a more technical player than Owen, particularly in his shooting in that he could swing his leg at anything and it would hit the target but Owen shades it overall given his electric pace, better anticipation and greater mobility.

Neither player have lived up to their abilities though: Fowler never well but Owen could still do it, provided his injuries settle down.

Fowler never had an international career - he's like Andy Cole(when at Newcastle) great against English club teams, did nothing in Europe and had no international career (yeah, i'm stressing that).

I don't remember top European clubs trying to get Fowler.

I stress- I am not knocking Fowler, he was a class player, just not top class.

 Good debate this one. Obviously you have to compare when both on form in there careers. Ive been boths bigest fans, Owen has proved more for England but Fowler was awsome for 3 or 4 years and was a far better finisher. owen has also arguble played in better sides then Fowler. Its a shame that both had bad injuries over the years because you would be looking at a world class partnership for both liverpool and England. I think owen has lost confidence in sprinting in case his hamstrings go, so has lost some pace, few years ago he just used to run at players he does'nt seem to do that any more. Whilst Fowler has'nt seemed happy for a long time and has also lost the edge for me.

when fowler was at his peak in 1996 he was just an awesome goalscorer. i remember a goal vs villa at anfield where he did a cruyff turn and hit a left foot scorcher from 25+ yards. it summed up everything good about him at the time.

whereas with owen, i remeber him hitting a 15 minute hatrick at st james against newcastle in gullit's first game in charge. andy gray said after his third goal that he had never seen such a good youngster. the directness and pace he had scared defenders to death.

both very diiferent yet brilliant in their own ways.

Both of them outstanding strikers , take away Owens pace (it's already diminishing) and for me Fowler is/was far and away the better of the two. How Fowler was not given more opportunities with England is beyond me. Anybody know how many starts he got ?.:)

26 appearances for england, 14 starts, 7 goals.

he never got more of a look in because shearer and sheringham were such a good partnership.
