Owen or fowler - Who was better?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

it would be interesting to see what posters on this forum think about this question.

robbie fowler in about 1996-97 was the most natural goalscorer i had ever seen. he scored goals from anywhere- right foot, left foot, headers, free kicks. he truly was GOD in my eyes. very much an individulal though who relied on his own individual brilliance.

michael owen has also been plagued by injury but around 1999-2000 the guy was unstoppable. he was the most exciting player to watch i had seen in a long time. defenders just daren't touch him. the guy is still 2-3 years off his peak imo.

who do you feel is or was the better of the two and why?

Michael Owen all round is a far superior footballer than Robbie Fowler but as you said yourself, what a finisher Robbie Fowler was.

fowler - very good finisher, not world class, never did anything on a scale bigger than a poor premiership, no international career.

Owen is world class.

Fowler was good, I was a fan of his, but he is not in the same class as Owen. I don't really see the debate

What do you mean you can't see the debate ?  Robbie Fowler scored 30 goals three seasons in a row for Liverpool...and he cost us nothing.  On another discussion on this site a member noted that if we get 20 goals next season from Cisse he will be a success...at a cost of 14 big ones.

Robbie loved Liverpool, so much that he clearly hasn't given a toss about any club he has played for since he left.  Compare that to the foreign thrash that are playing for the club at the moment.

I think Owen is technically superior to Fowler and has a broader spectrum to his game as a whole. But it was Robbie who scored that three & a half minute hat-trick against Arsenal who had the meanest defence of them all that season. For that feat alone, Robbie is and always will be GOD

F*ck me, that hat-trick was just about the best thing I've EVER seen in football and puts a big smile on my face just thinking about it  :)  :)

if fowler had kept of the sauce and been as proffesional as owen, he would have been far and away the better player.

Alright boy's been working away back home for the magpies game then back away as for the topic fowler is the better finisher or was whilst at lfc but owen has got a lot more to his game and i now think he's better than fowler robbie seems to have lost a lot to his game he had a good middle season but then faded but he is and will alway's be one of the best we've seen in are era.

FOWLER WAS BORN WITH CLASS . YOU COULD SEE HE WAS A NATURAL,BUT WAS PREPARED TO WASTE IT TO BE ONE OF THE LADS. OWEN HAS HAD TO WORK HIS ****** OFF TO BE WHERE E IS TODAY,HE'S ALL THE BETTER FOR IT.:)

Fowler was the best NATURAL GOALSCORER but Owen is the better player.
Would have been interesting to see what may have happened to Robbie had he been able to get his head round what Houllier expected from his players tho'. Methinks we would have witnessed some supreme goalscoring.

It seems to me that Owen is getting the nod over Fowler in the poll.  Just to add to the debate who do you think is Liverpool's all time best striker ?
