Battlestar gallactica (the new one) - Anyone watch it?

I'm not sure how widely this show is broadcast beyond North America but I was curious if anyone watches it.  I've just finished watching the second season this past weekend and it is really, really good!

I was skeptical at first because the original series (in the 70s) was so cheesy but this new version is very well done: it's dark, it's edgy and it operates in a moral grey area in a way that few shows seem to do.

Plus, it is chock-a-block full of fit women! :p  Too wit:

It's worth a look folks, trust me!

Yep, I watch it. Call me freak, but I use to watch many of the scifi shows, and I watch them all in english. (It's a good way to improve the language).

Galactica is pretty good in depth. Right now, I'm in the early stages of the second season (downloading it). Sometimes I feel that they try to defend what the actual U.S Army does sometimes. They show situations which are very actual. For instance torture is used at will against the captured human-zylons. The relationship between press, politics, and army reminds me quite a lot of nowadays political situations. Not always I like the message they give, by the way.

But the show is good and I like it.

Anyway, I preffer the Stargate tv show, specially the Atlantis one, because it's more interesting character-wise. The characters are more interesting and the relationship between them aswell (for instance Dr McKay). Give it a go if you haven't.

And for those who think those shows are stupid, I tell them to stop making questions like why in Galactica have interstelar jumps but still are using cord phones of the eighties. Scifi shows are interesting because they touch delicate matters being politically correct.

(1) BTW, I like both the blond and chinese robots, wouldn't mind testing their humanity.

Sure they do and other times the show seems very critical of U.S.-style military-led politics...that's part of what I find so interesting.

I've not seen that one Sabre but I'll try and check it out.

Definitely.  Sci fi can push the envelope on all sorts of issues without people freaking out too much, for some reason.  To take one example, the first interracial kiss on television?  The Original Star Trek.

Back to your earlier point about politics Sabre, the Sci Fi  genre works much like Westerns did back in the 1950s and 60s: it embodies the political and social world view of (usually) Americans but also subverts and challenges it at the same time (at least good sci fi does).

BTW, I like both the blond and chinese robots, wouldn't mind testing their humanity.

I hear what you're saying!  I've got just the "probe" for that job myself... :p  :p

I think you'll enjoy it mate!

Be advised, though, that there was a wee, albeit inadvertent, spoiler in Sabre's post.  It shouldn't inihibit your enjoyment of the show, though.  I'd love to hear what you think...

Finally saw the second series of this and really enjoyed it, even more then first series.
Although the story arc jump at end of  the season was quite a leap.
Looking forward to seeing what happens in the 3rd season.

I like the fact that unlike of sci fi shows that tend to be black and white , this has many shades of grey

That leap at the end blew my mind, mate.  I was digging in waiting for a whole season of "getting adjusted to the new environment" stuff and, boom, they blow right through that and on to the good stuff!  I'm well excited about Season 3 but will have to wait until it starts airing in October.

I ended second season and I really hate it when they leave you in that cliffhanger situations. Can't wait for the third season. I'm enjoying Atlantis 3rd season too.

One thing I like is that the protagonists are flawed. One day you hate the traitor scientist that has the blondie in his mind, next time you like him. Starbuck is lovely flawless or not, alcoholic or not.

Apparently there is a rumour of major character's death in series 3, so who knows Sabre your wish may end up being granted  :D
