Diouf - Worth giving him a run up front?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Could've sworn we bought Diouf to fill the void we were leaving by not signing Anelka.

If that's the case, why hasn't he been given a prolonged run up front? A few good moments aside, he's been generally aimless on the right, and would be far better served trying to use his pace and trickery in the box rather than down the wing.

Now that Emile's gone, would it be worth holding onto him and giving him a punt up with Owen or Cisse should one or the other's form drop? I just think it'd be a shame if we ended up selling him when we've never actually allowed him to show what he can do in the position that we signed him for. You never know - he could have a season like Angel's just had at Villa.

And if nothing else, when you have Owen, Cisse, Baros, Pongolle and Diouf in the squad, it makes you wonder why GH has opted to play Cheyrou and Kewell up front at various points this season. Why exactly did Houllier fork out all the £s for Diouf if he doesn't trust him to do a job up there?

For the life of me, I dont know why he wasnt given a go when owen is injured. I understand not wanting 2 small forwards, but Owen being injured gave Diouf the perfect opportunity to show his wares.
Football is a simple game, all you have to do is pass the ball to a player in a red shirt.

I'd definitley be on for giving Diouf a run up front, he is something different to what is up there at present so at least it's a different option

Because he is a different option... all the rest of them are similar enough players

We should give him a run upfront to see what he can do becuase i dont think we've tried it in a long time or ever tried it.

and because we cant sell him for anything near what we paid, and he is class so i can see us selling him cheap and him being different class
so we keep him and let him show us what he can do

How can you say he's not good enough when we've never played him up front.

I agree that he's not really set anfield alight but you can't blame him. We paid all that money for a striker and never give him the chance to prove himself.

I think he should be given another season to prove himself as a forward not a winger.

I would have liked to have seen Diouff given more of a run-out up front. To be fair, he looked pretty dreadful there but he does have some qualities and perhaps with the right coaching he could become a quality player. Just not with us.

Monaco, Marseille move for Liverpool's Hadji

May 21, 2004
AS Monaco and Olympique Marseille are both chasing Liverpool striker El Hadji Diouf.
The Senegal international's future at Anfield is in major doubt, particularly with manager Gerard Houllier's tenure also under the spotlight.

Marseille are believed to have already registered their interest with the Reds about Diouf.

Monaco are also considering making a bid as the Champions League finalists prepare to lose several of their star names over the close-season.

Diouf has never been a good enough finisher, and will score no more goals than Heskey did up front. I would sell Diouf in the summer if a good price is offered, if not hang on to him and he can be a backup.
