Mark gonzalez in san sebastian - Getting ready for the lfc first squad

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby JC_81 » Thu May 25, 2006 3:22 pm

I thought Gonzalez was very impressive against Ireland last night.  He will bring something to the team that we have been missing since we lost McManaman - the ability to carry the ball at pace.  He can also really strike a ball, wouldn't fancy being in the wall for one of his free-kicks.

What I liked about his performance last night is that he wasn't predictable.  He took the fullback for pace on the outside at times, while he also cut inside a fair few times, where he showed he is no slouch with his right foot either.

One slight negative was that he didn't seem to like it when any of the Irish lads put a strong challenge in.  I think he'll need to toughen up for next season and it might take half a season before we see the best of him, but I'm still convinced we've signed a cracker.

i think he was just using a self preservation first policy john. the last thing he wants is to turn up for work injured. also, he faded quite a bit after the hour and seemed to drop quite deep. of course understandable while on the road back to full fitness. i agree about the strength bit, he'll have to get used to that same as the rest.

but overall the last 5 games ive seen him in. he has improved each time. and with a good pre-season under his belt then i feel he will be ready to let rip on the prem.

he and jiminez linked up very well at times. and as youve said there were a few facets to his game that will enhance the squad considerably. fingers crossed for the permit then.

No I don't think he's a moaning player. It's just a culture difference when it comes to face a friendly. For some reason I think that in latin countries there is some sort of unspoken agreement in friendlies, that consists on not doing hard tackles or challenges on a friendly, or any action that could cause an injury.

I think that players of the islands though, have another philosophy, whenever they put their national squad shirt on they give their maximum.

I'm pretty sure he's a tough guy, because he's been given stick week in, week out here. There was not a SINGLE match of the games he played around here, in which the RB didn't finish with a yellow card.

Erm, not a nice story, and I'll check the facts before translating the whole article, but since the source seems to be Reuters, I have to tell you this

http://about.reuters.com/dynamic....460.ASP

Apparently 2 players have been "marginated" or kept away from the Chilean Squad because breaking the concentration laws in the hotel, and be found with unknown girls in their bedrooms.

To be honest I don't care the lad's personal life whatsoever as long as he performs well. No discipline problems or rumours that could be mentioned in San Sebastian (and this is really a small town, everything is known). I just hope this doesn't screw up the British Government decission about the work permit. The lad has girlfriend and this could bring him lots of nuisances as he's a media star in his country. Not that I'm a puritan, but I don't think it's good news reading this.

I'll check ASAP wether this is true or :censored:. If it was not reuters I wouldn't have posted anything.

Yeah boy! Go Marky, it's your orgy. Go Marky, it's your orgy. Mark Gonzales chucked out of the Chile squad for getting caught with 3 girls in his room.
:D

On a serious note, I can't see this being too much of a problem, and we all get it wrong every now and again. Poor judgement from Mark, but he'll learn.

Oi its not like Mark was banging 3 girls, Navia was also there. Also, the ladies had rooms in the same hotels and they were just talking to the players.

Mark ins't the kind of guy who likes to get into trouble, unlike his chilean teammate Pinilla from Racing.

Sanchez and Acosta are :censored: indeed. What did he expect Navia and Gonzalez to do? Tell the ladies to ''Get the :censored: out''? You don't do that.

Mark told chilean newspapers that next time he's asked to play for the national team, he'll think twice about it, because it's stupid misunderstandings like these that ruin a player's image.

Guess he'll have more time to concentrate on Liverpool.

If is Rafa says he really is the best player in Chile then the last thing they want is for Mark to not want to play for his country.

I dont think tis will affect his permit application but I was under the impression that he did not need one now as he has lived in Spain for over 2 years thus fullfiling the requirments for a Spanish passport.

I see. I wasnt aware of that fact.

Even in that case as I said I dont think the situation will affect his permait application. His performances alone in La Liga and the fact that the move is prmanent and not a loan should be enough to allow him a permit.

Translation of Mark's version, taken from the Jimenez mate's link. (Mercurio is one of the main Chile newspapers)

I want to make clear that the girls were customers of the hotel that night, the hotel was full of people, and we were sharing the hotel with more people. Obviously through the corridors you could see more people that were not from the national squad. We had so bad luck (yeah, right), that meanwhile we were listening to music and we had the door room opened, some girls stepped in, came in to the room, and they asked us some autographs and started talking with me about the work permit, and that stuff. It was then when the Proffesor (coach) discovered us and understandably he thought the worst. I know the rules were stablished and we understand the measures but we don't agree.

It's not our fault, the girls came to our room, I couldn't be so unpolite to tell them "walk off here".

Of course not Marky.

And you mates, you know what to do next time you go to a hotel. Just leave your door opned at some point of the night, you never know what could enter to your room.  :D

At the very least he should not have put himself in such a silly situation, and at the worst he has shown a complete disregard for the rules.

But not the end of the world, mistake has been made, sure it will not be a big issue.
