If as reported Newcastle are interested in Cisse then we could hold the key to getting Owen back to Anfield. I would welcome him back at Anfield and still reckon there is a good chance we will get him. Yes, he has been injured a lot but so has Kewell and he, under Rafa's new regime, has had a largely injury free season. Maybe Rafa's ways are more focussed on core fitness and reducing the risk of injury - just a thought!!

We may wait until after the WC to go after him (after he proves his fitness) but I would like to see us exercise the clause in his contract and test Newcastle out!!

I think Bellamy would probably be a better choice he seems a similar player to Owen and would work well with Crouch but is stronger than Owen.

Lots of people get emotional about this Owen issue but at the end of the day football is his job. He decided and was probably badly advised by his agent to go for a promotion to a Real Madrid, in the end what to him looked like a promotion turned out to be a huge demotion many of us could see it coming. Owen was always likely to play second fiddle to the galactico's and he got it badly wrong.

I'd have him back if the price is right.Cisse plus £5m would do for me.

Expecting professional footballers to put club before their own interests is (with very few exceptions) a complete waste of time so I can't be @rsed worrying about the rights and wrongs of his departure.

If he'll improve the team buy him. He's only a footballer - you're not marrying the bloke so you don't have to love him.

I don't think any of us can really say we where looking like we where going to win anything when he left, but its his own fuking fault for being a tit and thats what happens when you you try to change situations to enhance your chances, have faith and heart, and you won't look like a muppet 2 years later. I am positive it is haunting him by the day that he left us, but well, thats life, too bad, nice to know ya, hope you aren't playing when Newcastle gets relegated.

I never blamed him for leaving. Houllier had us playing the most boring football ever and Owen spent his whole time waiting for Heskey flick ons. A waste of Owens talent and he single handedly carried the team for years. The biggest club in the world (sorry folks but 9 Euro cups) came in for him so as a professional it made sense, even though GH was gone and a new manager was here.

However, it is the way he left that was wrong. Enough has been said about that.

I don't understand why he didn't tell Madrid "either sell me to LFC for £8m or I'll sit on the bench collect £100k a week and leave for a free at the end of my contract" what choice would they have?

I'd be furious if I was a Newcastle fan with how he has talked about England none stop and barely mentioned NFC. Would I have him back? in a second!

I think but for the world cup he would have, but even for a gambler like Owen it was too big a risk, and once Madrid saw the size of Newcastles bid it was all over bar the bad feeling and recriminations. Especialy as Rafa seemed lukewarm to the idea, and Souness was creaming his drawers at the thought of getting him.

i would welcome arms open for owen as he is ascouser, but the fact the matter is he left for a club with such great prosper that he thought he would slide into the team like eating a jelly baby, but i thinks he regrets it has he didnt show what he can do with such great plyers, but going to newcastle he thought he would show what a world class player he is buy going to a lower club, id ont think that has worked well and i dont htink he has done enough to break into the england team, i think he should of staed at liverpool instead of running to madrid for the high wage packet.

Arsenal are rumoured to have bid £12million to invoke Owen's release clause, according to BBC this morning.
Shepherd has again said Owen is staying at Newcastle.

My philosophy is that once you leave club or workplace you should never come back.

With regards to Newcastle, why is it that they seem to have tons of money for rebuilding the squad?  They are rumoured to be in the hunt for SWP.

Would have to agree with that, although sometime there are exceptions like Fowler, but not sure the Owen case is the same.

And to be honest, does Owen really offer that much more than Fowler? One is a free transfer, on about one third or even one forth of what the other is on, one would play for free if asked, one is not expecting a first team spot, etc. Owen really doesn’t offer much more than Fowler, and Fowlers overall play is better.

I wouldn’t be angry is Owen came back, but for loads of reasons I just don’t think it is the direction we should take.

He's shit on Rafa twice, Rafa's not letting it happen again.

I dunno..... If we had an out-and-out goal scorer, we'd have turned a few losses into wins and certainly we drew a few we should comfortably have won this season! Let's be 100% honest, if we are to catch the mercenaries next season, we need someone clinical up front! Owen may well be the missing piece! £12m might be very cheap if his form returns and he stays injury free! Remember, he was European Footballer of the Year when with the 'Pool. On form, theres' few better! I'd put him right up there in the same company as Henry, Shevshenko, Adriano... How much would you pay for one of them?? Probably in excess of £40m!
£12m? A pittance!! Let's get him back!
