Liverpool are close to agreeing a transfer fee with Valencia for Fernando Morientes.

Valencia sports director Amedao Carboni has been trying to negotiate a deal for the striker who failed miserably at Anfield following his £6.3million arrival in January 2005.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry initially valued the Spaniard at £4million but the latest reports have the fee nearer to the £3million mark with Carboni trying to bring it down further.

Speaking recently, Morientes said: "I'm the first to accept my form has been disappointing.

"I haven't hit the level of performance I achieved when I was with Real but I've still got a lot to offer."

The sooner we sell him, the sooner we can bring in a striker, I like this more prudent approach to the transfer market, doubt Parry and Moores have much to do with it, Rafa knows what he is doing, not setting the wrong sort of precedent by giving into silly demands.

If Moro leaves then I guess we can expect a new striker before the World Cup.

Some fella on an another forum who has these things spot on has said Morientes will be a Valencia player by next week.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
