Digs by departing players

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby jonnymac1979 » Thu May 20, 2004 10:15 pm

So Heskey has finally left Liverpool.

I managed to read a couple of sound bites by him as he left the club.  Did I read correctly that he said he was coming to a club who were prepared to play him in his natural position as an out and out striker?

Reading between the lines, is this an ever so small dig at the management of Liverpool Football Club, who he is accusing of NOT playing him in his natural position?

Remember Paul Ince did the same when he was bombed out of the club?

I'm not saying Heskey has done anything wrong, but some of the players in the squad are bound to be moving on in the summer.  They are not bound to the club by any code any more so listen carefully what the departing players have to say when they leave to make a judgment on the state and morale of our squad.

Heskey is the first major player to go.

I don't see it as a "dig" just his diplomatic way of saying "Thank Fk I don't have to keep tracking back to help out the Dfence " :D

That comment may mean low morale i agree.

Which may explain the lack of form.

But if we're honest, he's played upfront all season, he's probably played 20 games for lfc in 4 years on the wing.

So half of its down to him. Sometimes players such as him have to be brave and go against orders.

Last season, did you hear Berger saying anything when he left?  No.

I know a guy who I have mentioned on these pages before that was allowed Access All Areas to the squad in the 1994-95, he wrote a book on his memoirs of that season a few years back which I read one day last week, and he told me that the amount of stuff he left out you wouldn't believe!!!

The journalists writing these quotes have to put it in such a way to make it friendlier on the ear rather than it sounding a personal attack.  Footballers don't always talk in cliches.

Iv'e said it before and I'll say it again.
Potentially Emile was a "Mike Tyson" but fought like "Frank Bruno"
ie lacked self belief. Thats where the management team failed.
Unfortunately they didn't have the ability to get the best out of him.  :(

Jonnymac I agree. When Litmanen went there were a few murmurings in the papers about his discontent but you could tell he could've filled the Sunday Times with how pi*sed off he was with his treatment at Anfield. As for Anelka we only read about his bewilderment but I bet it went deeper than that.

Woof woof I see what you're saying but O'Neill had the same problems with him at Leicester. I think Heskey is just a lost cause who will never do anything more than have a couple of good games followed by 10 sh*t ones, whoever's coaching/managing him

I never followed his career at Liecester.

I have to review my opinion of MON :( :(

Woof, my father-in-law's a Leicester fan so I've been going to Filbert Street & lately the Walkers about 4-5 times a season for the last 10 years and I can say for definite that the Leicester fans thought exactly the same as us about the big fella.

Incidentally I walked past the whole Leicester team at Stoke's old Victoria Ground about 8 years ago in the corridor connecting the dressing rooms to the offices and Heskey would've been 18/19 and he is one HUGE motherf*ker. What a waste of potential. But yeah, even O'Neill couldn't get him to do it every week.

glad he left, he was a dirty player who occasionally played like he did for man utd, most often didn't.  He also thought he was the 'gaffer' and got upset when GH and Tomo brough him down a peg.  I would have paid to watch Phil shout him down  :D

Can't help but like Emile as a person (The guy's a fu*king God down at Leicester after he gave them £200,000 cash when they were about to go bust) but I suppose he was just too much of a gentle giant. Tyson/Bruno sums it up perfectly   :)

yeah, Gentle giant is right.  I'm sure he will still be in the England line up, because he is good for holding the ball up and works well with Owen,
