the guy is very quick and to be fair his goals tally this year is excellent considering the amount of starts and gametime he`s had in the season.( i can hardly believe he scored that many tbh, it certainly didnt seem like he was on the scoresheet that often!).
but i think that miss against man u summed up his liverpool career, he was too busy moaning and gesticulating in that gallic-robert-pires style manner about getting a pen that he wasnt ready when the chance fell his way and when he did manage to get a foot to it he skied it from about 4 yards out.
in that little cameo performance from him we lost the initiative in the game and ended up losing a big game we shouldnt have, big games swing on such moments.
i dont think he`s the leader of the line we are looking for because he just doesnt get those 3 yard tap ins or those scrappy goals the likes of gary lineker or clive allen made their bread and butter.
i dont think he`s the worst player we`ve got but he`s probably the worst player we`ve got who we can sell for around 8 million quid.

This debate is getting boring now, I think most sane people agree that:

-In the long term he isn’t good enough

-We shouldn’t sell him unless we get a reasonable fee and find a better replacement.

thats the bottom line to the whole thread.

L'OM wait on Cisse recovery

Marseille chairman Pape Diouf has admitted their proposed move for Djibril Cisse could depend on how long he is out of action for.

The Liverpool man is currently recovering from a broken leg he sustained earlier this month in a friendly match against China.

The injury seemed to cast a shadow over Marseille's move for the former Auxerre man, but the Stade Velodrome outfit are keen to push through a deal.

Liverpool are willing to let Cisse leave having brought in Craig Bellamy and they are considering letting him go on loan initially with a view to a permanent move.

Diouf has held talks with Liverpool and Cisse in the last few days and he revealed if the striker is able to return by October Marseille will sign him.

"We do our best considering our possibilities to make Cisse come, but it will all depend on the period of his unavailability, considering the talk over a one year loan," said Diouf

"October will be the lesser evil. We have reassured Cisse.

"We have a reasonable hope because we are in talks with reasonable people."

Meanwhile, Diouf is hoping Marseille can improve next season under new manager Albert Emon.

"Last season was a transitional one," added Diouf. "This year we have to go forward.

"We must get better final ranking than 5th position."

Cisse waiting on Marseille

Liverpool's unsettled striker Djibril Cisse has confirmed he wants to join Marseille and is waiting on the clubs to concur on a transfer fee.

L'OM have held a long-standing interest in the French ace, who is currently on the sidelines after suffering a broken leg prior to the World Cup.

Marseille are keen to have Cisse in their ranks, but are waiting on how Cisse recovers from injury, as any delays could force him to miss much of the first half of the season.

Cisse, who was in Germany to see his team-mates book their place in the quarter finals of the World Cup against Spain, has his heart set on a move to Stade Velodrome.

"I am waiting for the club's decision," Cisse said to Tf1. "Marseille and Liverpool are still negotiating my transfer.

"What do I want? I want to play for Marseille.

"They are the club in my heart that I supported as a child."

Meanwhile, Cisse says he will not let his latest injury setback scar him mentally as he is targetting playing in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Cisse has been informed he will be fit to return in October, but after recovering from a similar injury ahead of schedule he is hoping to feature in September.

"When I just got injured, I knew my World Cup was over, but I didn't breakdown," he added. "It is not in my character.

"I'll bounce back straight away. When I had my scan, and they told me the injury… that calmed me a little, maybe because I had the same injury to the other leg.

"I never let my head drop head, I never let myself go. In four months I'll be back, and that's all. I never thought my career was over.

"The doctors told me I'll be back in October. So I would say I'll play towards the back end of September.

"It wasn't the worst moment in my career, because it's just a physical injury. The worst was Euro 2004 when I missed it with a five-match suspension.

"I will be there for the next World Cup. I will achieve a nice season and score goals. I am already thinking about the Euro qualifiers!"

Maybe hope of a permanent transfer and thus allowing us to spend that money on a new striker. Couldn’t we agree to pay his part or all of his wages until he makes his debut if they agree to sign him permanently?

Marseille have confirmed Valencia are interested in signing Taye Taiwo.

Taiwo has attracted the interest of a host of clubs across Europe after impressing at Stade Velodrome.

Valencia are in the market for a new left back with Fabio Aurelio set to join Liverpool and are thought to have made Taiwo their top target.

Marseille chairman Pape Diouf confirmed Valencia were keen on Taiwo, but insists no offer has been made for the Nigerian.

"That is true that Valencia has shown interest but, they have not made an offer," Diouf told France Provence.

"We haven't talked to the directors.

"For instance, we haven't given our agreement for his departure."

Diouf also revealed that they are close to agreeing a deal for Liverpool's Djibril Cisse.

Marseille have been chasing Cisse for some time and they have held talks with Liverpool officials over a possible loan switch.

Diouf believes the deal is close to being sealed with just a few minor details to be ironed out.

"We are closing on an agreement, we are on the right direction," added Diouf.

"There are only a few details remaining."
