Atmosphere v villa - Disgrace

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby GunGod » Sat May 06, 2006 5:41 am

It's hard to read a bloody thread these days without any name-calling and infighting among ourselves.

I do understand the logic Scousers around here put forward when they say they feel more than outsiders (esp. other from countries). Location does matter.

But somehow some of them take it too far and see others (otters) as encroaching on their turf. That's downright silly and perhaps to them the first team should restrict itself to at least Liverpool born and bred players?

A question posed to the OOTers rejectionist: Why do you accept foreign players in your team wholeheartedly but not foreign support? What's the logic?

I honestly think Scousers should be the Big Brothers of all others: Teach them the heritage of LFC rather than discriminate.

But somehow some are just over-protective of their identity and don't want to share.

You have your feelings and opinions, and this is the only time ever being on this forum I have really spoke to scousers. To hear them say the club is more special to them, than it is to an outsider kind of makes me upset.
When I've been sitting there watching Liverpool play over the years I never gave it a minutes thought that scousers (or some) have a problem with the outsiders.  :(

ignore mark23 he's dapioneer in a thinly-veiled disguise

apart from him the concensus of opinion is that as long as you don't go wandering around in a jester's hat saying "where's the kop and where do i buy a soccer jersey" then you're 110% welcome at anfield. if you've made the effort to get to the game and you make that effort for not just the big games then as far as i'm concerned you're as welcome there as anyone else. i've been going there for 25 years and have yet to have any bother off anyone for not being a scouser so don't let the miserable buggers put you off

Exactly Al mate.

When I was over a few months back I was in the away end for the Liverpool/Chelsea game.

Most of the away supporters are scousers, and everyone I either spoke to or was sat near didn't give me any grief at all.

The only two who I saw get any grief in our end were the silly lads who decided to get their camera out and take some photos when we were down 2-0. They got stick from a few lads sat around them, and rightfully so.

You just have to show your support for the club the best way you know how.  I sung till my throat was hoarse, even when we were losing 2-0, and joined in with all the banter towards the Chelsea fans.

Of course you are going to get some more narrow-minded individuals, but if you show that you love the club and don’t act/look like an ignorant tw@t (jester hats, saying soccer etc) then you'll be fine.

I think that I may have a solution to helping the atmosphere at Anfield.  Firstly I am an Ooter and love a good sing-song on my trips to Anfield.  I often find that several pints before the match do your singing the world of good.  The majority of fans will dive into one of the local boozers beforehand and make it inside, tanked up and ready to go at the last possible minute.  For those infrequent visitors who go every blue moon(me once upon-a-time), it's usually a case of getting into the ground early which is when the dramas begin.  Getting a beer in Anfield is a major f*cking operation.  You have a few guys behind the bar who don't speak the lingo and have 2 speeds (slow and stop).  When they work out what you want you've then got to painfully watch them pour cans of Charlie with a 6 inch head on it.  It takes ages.

Now last season I was at Blackburn away and hats of to 'em they were all over it.  They have McDonalds type drinkie holders for 4 pints which were placed under 4 pumps, wait a few seconds. . . . . 4 pints.  Also they didn't just wait for the orders, some chick was filling while the others just got them over the bar.  After seeing this it's clear that that there is massive room for improvement at Anfield.

I think another reason for the lack of singing is that people just don't know the f*cking words.  This is totally their responsibility and it's not hard with this T'interweb thingy, so come fella's lack of atmosphere is not helping anyone (except the opposition).  I could go on about a few more points but I think that's enough for now.  Your thoughts? ????

He isn't saying that OOTers don't love the club or saying they don't have as much a right to support the club as locals. He is saying that scousers will just feel that little extra special when the club wins something or when Gerrard lifted the trophy as they are their local team and a local lad that could have been any of them. One of their own and that makes them that little bit prouder and i understand that. Its nothing to do with race or location just the fact that its one of them and it makes them feel even more pleased.

I don't think ooters appreciate the derby as much, they don't have to work with a load of bitters who wind you up should they win as if it is a cup final.  It is their cup final.

dapioneer   :no

So you are saying that if you live in Doncaster, the derby means as much to you, families split down the middle for the day, red or blue.  Don't think so.

I said to my girlfriend on the way home - Villa are probably the least significant team in the League for LFC.

They are of no consequence whatsoever. They have no scum anywhere on or off the pitch.

No-one to hate, you see.

What about their chairman, Doug Ellis?

Although you say that 'whoever makes the effort deserves to go'.  My point is that people who haven't been all season but get a ticket through a supporters club for a big massive game.  Now if you think that is okay then fair enough.

I'm fed up with this arguement now

Well I live in Notts, but I challenge anyone to prove to me that the CL win, etc doesn't mean as much to me as it does a scouser.

My girlfriends family are all bitters, so the derby is a heated affair, I have scum-supporting mates (all glory hunters, but that is the same everywhere, especially in Old Shatford), there are Sh*tski fans I play tennis with, and there are several Arsenal fans in my local.

It's a bit silly to belittle "ooters" when you haven't got a f*cking clue what we put up with.
In Liverpool, you only have bluesh*tes to contend with. If you get any sh*t, there are thousands of reds to fall back on.

In my town, there are ardent fans of all our main rivals, and very few Liverpool fans.

I may not have a geographical connection with Stevie, JC and Robbie, but scousers don't with Dalglish, Molby, Souness, Hansen, Keegan, etc.

It's swings and roundabouts, and to say that ooters don't have a connection due to some daft notion about their birthplace is just horsesh*t.

I think Leon is a great chap and not a c.unt..I'd be quite happy to take the 1 ticket and leave some other fortunate soul to take the 2nd ticket.   :D

Most top teams in the Premiership have a poor atmosphere at home unless it's a big match. Our away support is fantastic [apart from the Pompey game], but we're not the only one's having problems with the atmosphere.
