i've gotta come down on the side of leon (for once :wwww ) and RB on this one. i'm probably talking out me @rse cos i'm a wool myself so i can't really speak on behalf of the scousers but i think there IS a special bond between the club and the liverpudlian born & bred supporters. not that it's better than the bond that us wools have, it's just that little bit different. that's how i see it anyway. as for who does or doesn't deserve to be at the game it's simple: the ones who deserve to be there are the ones who've made an effort to get tickets, regardless of where they're from

the atmosphere last saturday was indeed sh*te, but i think we can all agree that had a whole lot more to do with the calibre of opposition rather than where our supporters had travelled from

woof: i know what you mean but this what this forum's all about; banter discussion & argument - surely this is what our friend phil loves about the place?

Well, I teach the bloody subject so I agree that geography does matter!

There's no way I can sit here, behind a computer screen in Canada and pretend that my feelings for Liverpool FC match those of born-and-bred Scousers.  I love the team fully but I recognize that it will be a different kind of love than those who live within spitting distance of Anfield, just as it will be a different kind of love from that expressed by "Wools" like Woolyback, Dawson, etc.  That's to be expected and I've no trouble admitting as much.

None of this has anything to do with the atmosphere inside the ground, though.  It's easy to scapegoat OOTers and Wools as the problem but, as many have said, that criticism's wide of the mark.

I've got no solutions having never been to a game, afterall...but it's pretty apparent to me that the challenge of creating a better atmosphere at Anfield is a burden that all Liverpool fans, regardless of where they call home, need to take up.

This thread has gone way off the mark, but anyway as I sit here and read the posts from scousers on this topic it kind of makes me feel I'm not worthy of supporting LFC.
You have your feelings and opinions, and this is the only time ever being on this forum I have really spoke to scousers. To hear them say the club is more special to them, than it is to an outsider kind of makes me upset.
When I've been sitting there watching Liverpool play over the years I never gave it a minutes thought that scousers (or some) have a problem with the outsiders.  :(

ignore mark23 he's dapioneer in a thinly-veiled disguise

apart from him the concensus of opinion is that as long as you don't go wandering around in a jester's hat saying "where's the kop and where do i buy a soccer jersey" then you're 110% welcome at anfield. if you've made the effort to get to the game and you make that effort for not just the big games then as far as i'm concerned you're as welcome there as anyone else. i've been going there for 25 years and have yet to have any bother off anyone for not being a scouser so don't let the miserable buggers put you off

Its a lazy excuse that OOTers make the atmosphere worse or tickets harder to come by for Scousers, but in some cases it is true. Its completely true the other way round as well though.

Personally, I accept OOTers a lot more than I did a couple of years ago, but WOOLs are WOOLs, and they will always bear the brunt of scousers jokes. In fact people from just outside Liverpool, may of whom are scousers are called WOOLs.

Get over it.

Nail on the head.In all walks of life people percieved as outsiders are treated differently.Ask any local in Plymouth or Portsmouth are they happy with the influx of sailors in there pubs and clubs on a Saturday night.Ask the local lads in Catterick or Aldershot are they happy with the squaddies. Then ask the soldiers and sailors what they think of the locals. You will get two entirley different points of view, both with some justification.

Having been born and bred in Liverpool,I feel I have a special affiliation to Liverpool Football Club,it is after all my home town team.I am not saying people from outside of Liverpool cant love the club, but I do think its a different kind of love.To see Steven Gerrard lift the European Cup was fantastic for every Liverpool supporter, no matter were in the World you come from, but the fact that he is a Liverpool lad made it more special for me.Of course I am delighted for any Liverpool captain to lift any trophy as you all are, but there is that special bond beetween Liverpool people that cant be bought in the souvenir shop.To me there will always be a difference beetween scousers and ooters its not a physical one,but it is there.

You may think reading that I have a problem with OOTERS,I dont.I count myself lucky to have been born in this city,a city everybody should visit if they get the chance and not just for the football. All succesful football clubs have support from outside their immediate catchment areas. The money they bring into the respective clubs is vital.I know at Cardiff there will be loads of wools/ooters as far as Iam concerned if they qualify for a ticket in there own right good luck to them. There are fans from this city who will get tickets for the final that dont deserve them, likewise their will be fans from outside who shouldnt get one.We are all Liverpool supporters at the end of the day and as far as I am concerned the gates of Anfield are open to all.If you are from out of town and come to Anfield, do us a favour leave your Jesters hats at home.

A great post. Im not against anyone supporting Liverpool from outside the area at all but there is a difference in being a Liverpool supporter and a scouse Liverpool supporter.

Mate , take no notice of the so called "scousers" that make fans from outside of Liverpool feel unwelcome . They are one step away from those that claimed if you weren't blonde and blue eyed you weren't a true Aryan ,and we all know what that led to . Funny though , how they disrespect fans from outside of Liverpool and yet they have no problem with players from all parts of the globe playing for our club . Dalglish was a Scot ,Molby a Dane , Rush a Welshman and Alsonso ,god forbid a bloody Spaniard ! Ignore the small minded racists .
Liverpool is a great city with a great football club , but like any city anywhere it has it's fair share of a*seholes , the fact that they claim to be born and bred scousers should in no way diminish your support to LFC .

He is saying that scousers will just feel that little extra special when the club wins something or when Gerrard lifted the trophy as they are their local team and a local lad that could have been any of them. One of their own and that makes them that little bit prouder and i understand that. Its nothing to do with race or location just the fact that its one of them and it makes them feel even more pleased.

I don't think ooters appreciate the derby as much, they don't have to work with a load of bitters who wind you up should they win as if it is a cup final.  It is their cup final.
