A move has been talked about for some time and Reds boss Gerard Houllier dropped a huge hint following Saturday's draw with Newcastle when suggesting Heskey had played his last game for the club.
Bruce has now confirmed his interest and expects to agree terms this week.
"We are close to agreeing a deal and we hope to complete it within the next 48 hours," said Bruce.
It would appear that Houllier has opted to cash-in on Heskey as he has a ready-made replacement on the way in the form of Auxerre's Djibril Cisse.
Houllier has continually backed Heskey despite the forward failing to fire on a regular basis.
However, with free-scoring Frenchman Cisse likely to be the first-choice partner for Michael Owen, it would appear the Reds chief has opted to move him on.
The signing will be a boost to Blues fans who will be able to look forward to seeing Heskey partner Finnish ace Mikael Forssell next season.
SO WHAT DO YE ALL THINK OF THE HESKEY SITUATION? I DIDNT GET TO SEE THE GAME OR HIGHLIGHTS ON SAT HOW DID HE PLAY? PERSONALLY I SAY SELL HIM! HE HASNT DONE IT CONSISTENTLY OVER THE SEASON AND ONLY PLAYS WELL FOR FIVE OR SIX GAMES A YEAR!
