Got some more news for you on the Revolution. It's gonna make it's "big splash" at E3 on May 9th (which means it could be out withen 3 months of that date going by nintendo's previous form) where they can show off all the extra bits and bobs. There has been confirmation that it will be accompanied upon release with 20 launch titles which may include Pikmin 3, Tony Hawk: Downhill Jam, Sadness (a gothic horror game with more atmosphere than any other [apparently]) and rather bizzarely a painting game based on the legendary Bob Ross (did The Joy Of Painting series on US TV and is still on at 9 in the morning on one of the sky channels. he's been dead for some time now) although this last one may well have been an april fools joke. There has also been discussion of including 2 controllers in the box with the Rev which would be nice. I'll continue to keep you posted.

Sweet, cheers Ace, I know it's a long shot but I'd love the Rev to outsell the PS3  :buttrock

Interesting reports filtering out of America in the last few minutes. Sony could be in real trouble. With the Revolution planning something massive for E3 and with X360 sales starting to pick up a bit of steam, they're panicing a bit and the PS3 looks like it's gonna suffer. They're terrified that because Microsoft and Nintendo are projecting big and quick success with their machines and the fact that PSP software units aren't shifting at anything like the desired rate, they are going to have to rush the PS3. This means that all the components which blew up in the original prototype are basically just going to be gaffer taped up and shoved back in so they have a chance of making a decent showing this Christmas. This could mean that the PS3 is going to be even less impressive than it was going to be.

What this also means is that developers and suppliers don't know what's going on, with games being designed for specs that may no longer exist, so the machine may only have a skeleton selection of launch titles to boot.

Basically, it's complete chaos at Sony and the phrase "headless chicken" doesn't begin to cover the madness that's going on there. The machine will still be a huge success (new coke sucked and it still outsold Pepsi) but the market could really be opened up if Sony don't pull their act together.

Interesting that Ace, hope it's true  :)

From Gamespot on 22nd March 06

It's official: the retro craze is over. Electronic Arts today announced what most gun-happy PC gamers already believed--the Battlefield franchise is headed into the far future. Thanks to leaked trailers and not-so-subtle hints dropped by developers, today's confirmation of Battlefield 2 for the PC wasn't exactly a shot heard 'round the world.

Battlefield 2142, set 200 years after series debut Battlefield 1942, will take place on a not-too-hospitable Earth. After a new Ice Age renders much of the planet useless, survivors decide to ignore good will and scrap for the remaining inhabitable terrain near the equator with high-tech weapons and vehicles.

There will be two factions to choose from--the fictional Pan Asian Coalition and the European Union. Though land may be scarce, technology apparently isn't. Gamers will be able to pilot battle mechs that rule the ground and futuristic aircraft that watch over the skies. Infantry won't simply be crushed underfoot of said mechs; they'll have some tricks up their sleeves, including EMP (electro-magnetic pulse) grenades to put machines on the fritz and cloaking devices to sneak around the playing field undetected.

EA assures the BF faithful that the story doesn't mean that the popular multiplayer franchise is becoming a story-driven single-player game. "The story drives both single-player and multiplayer modes in the game," an EA rep told GameSpot News. "While we do have a single-player component, the focus is first and foremost on delivering the multiplayer Battlefield experience that fans have come to know and love."

Said multiplayer experience will include support for up to 64 players and character-persistence returns, with success leading to new weapons, medals, and ranks. There will also be a commander mode, which allows players to "go behind the scenes...to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates." EA could not comment further on the commander mode but promised that more details will be available at E3.

Battlefield 2142 is scheduled to ship this fall. EA has not released rating or pricing information for the game.

Thx Paul! BF2142 looks from the screenshots to follow on from BF2's winning style.  My only problem is that I'll need to buy a new computer before I can play it.  Since the latest patch on BF2, it's been running like a pig.

Oh, if you guys could hear some of the stuff I'm hearing about Sony. It's all rumour at the moment as far as I can tell, but when I know something concrete, I'll tell you. Some funny stuff though.

Ok, first thing's first. I was hearing all these crazy rumours about the PS3 not making it out until December 2007, and them calling Nintendo for help because they've ballsed everything up big time. Nothing's been said and it has now been confirmed as all rumour which was why no-one was carrying it.

And now for the big stuff...

FROM THIS DAY FORTH, THE NEW NINTENDO HARDWARE SHALL NO LONGER BE REFERED TO AS "THE REVOLUTION". FROM HERE ON, IT SHALL BEEN KNOWN AS "NINTENDO: WII".

Loads of news from Ninty today. The Nanchuka controller will contain an "accelerometer" (whatever that is) and we now look to have a certain, world-wide release date: October 27th.

Loads more games have been confirmed. EA's Madden series is going to be especially modified to get the most out of the Rev... sorry, force of habit... the Wii. The kiddies will be catered for by a shed load of cr@ppy Nickelodeon titles, there will be a new Donkey Kong game and Sega have confirmed Super Monkey Ball: Wii. Dragon Ball Z will get it's own game, as will a new flying based game from Hudson. Speaking of Hudson, they and Sega confirmed that they will be putting loads of teir games on the download system and it looks lie a load of other companies will be getting involved (rumours are saying EA, Rare, Acclaim and Eidos will all put their catalogues on the system). And the Wii will also feature something called a "gesture system". I'm sure there will be loads more at E3.

THQ have announced a new expansion pack for Dawn Of War which will be released in the autumn. It's gonna feature two new races (the Tao and the Necron) which will bring the number of playable teams up to an unprecidented 7. Sounds good to me, and hopefully this means some added squads for the current races.

Wii Time

Time Magazine article on the Wii which spills the beans a bit ahead of Ninty's press conference tomorrow(ish) at E3. And the good news is that Sony have found a PS3 that hasn't blown up to show off.
