I was in the main stand last night and like many around me was struck by the loud and vociferous reaction to Houllier bringing on Biscan towards the end of the game.
From those expressing their disagreement at the decision it was a statement of disgust with another negative tactical masterpiece from Le Boss. We were playing the mighty Man City of course , riding high at 16th in the League and only a few games away from setting a club record for the most league games without a win. Although we led for most of the game it was a tense game, largely because we wouldn't commit enough players forward and a number of players were not at their best.
From Houllier's perspective the substitution was a natural thing to do given our recent results and failures to kill off games. Bring Biscan on ( a defensive minded player ) for Cheyrou ( an attacking player ) to shore up midfield and ensure we don't lose !
Houllier , however , did admit to noticing the crowd reaction ( can't blame that on the phone ins ) and commented thus..
"What are they moaning about ?..I am disappointed for my players because their effort deserved a lot better than that .....It was a good win and a good 3 points against a good team.... You've got to understand the psychology after not winning for 4 matches !"
So what are your views ladies and gents ?
Do you side with the many thousands at the game who were p#ssed off or do you side with The Man At The Top ?
