LIVERPOOL TARGET YAKUBU
Press Report 13 May 2004
Portsmouth striker Yakubu has become a shock target for Liverpool manager Gerard Houlier.
With the futures of both Micheal Owen and Emile Hekey uncertain Houlier has targeted Yakubu to bolster his strike force. With an expected influxe of cash into the club Houlier will have around £35 million to spend in the summer transfer window.
The Frenchman has been impressed with Yakubu's performances in portsmouth relagation fight and belives that he can help push Liverpool into realistic title contenders.
Houlier believes he can get Yakubu for around £8 million. Portsmouth dont want to sell but they would be hard pressed to refuse a bid of that size. But Liverpool are not the only side intrested with Yakubu with several teams from Europe also impressed with his performances in his first season in the English top flight.
One club from France and two from Spain are ready to make bids when the transfer window opens.
