i voted for gerrard this season.  but you have to say, each and every one on that list has improved this term. and FWIW a mention must be given to sissoko..... theyre all though a better side in an improving squad that has lots of potential.

certainly on the right track.

It's simple. Our captain and best player who every team in Europe would love to have in their line-up. He may not have been at his absolute best all season but even at 50%, he is as good a midfield player as Liverpool have ever had and that's really saying something. He is an absolutely fantastic talent who is the best central midfelder, wide right-midfielder and if he played there regularly, the best right-back aswell. Thank God we've still got him.

He has been by far the best performer this year and without him we wouldn't be sitting where we are in the league and FA Cup. Carragher and Hyypia deserve due praise BUT they haven't made the same level of impact that Gerrard has. Carragher has been more consistent than Hyypia and he probably is more of a fans favourite. But the vote must show the best player of the year and that IS Gerrard.

It's human nature, mate...

He'll be taken for granted by some because he makes the special seem ordinary by doing it week in, week out.

Other posters will want to champion other players to be original--who'd enjoy reading response after response all extolling the virtues of Gerrard, even though it is deserved?

Having said that, Stevie's still my Player of the Year by a good long way...

He's done the business for us this season in a number of roles, from RB to in-the-hole forward to right winger...and he's done them superbly well.

Just as importantly, he has looked every inch the captain this year, which was not something I would have predicted given his on-the-pitch demeanor over the last few seasons and given the scare he gave us last summer (again!).

But, all credit to him--he has refocused on leading Liverpool forward in a way I could never have imagined after 2 summers' flirtations with Roman's cheque-book.  Stevie has stepped up as a leader this year and has made others better as a result.

This is why Madrid have him at the top of their wish-list (interesting that they aren't clamouring for Fat Frank, isn't it?).  But he's going nowhere.  You can see it in his eyes...he's a Red for life now and that means that it will only be onwards and upwards for the lad from here!

I've gone for stevie g ,but it was harder to decide this year which is a good sign. His all round contribution to the team is second to none imo ,and his scoring record is also excellent.

I think this year is very difficult because although Gerrard is the player we would miss the most, you also have players like Carra, Finnan and Reina who do their job well, and are amongst the best in the league at what they do, and have been consistant.

It really is too close to call in my opinion, I wouldn't know who to give my vote to, but no doubt Gerrard will win it anyway.

spoilt for choice really, first of all finnan has come of age this season and has shown an enormous improvement and looks very solid. kewell too has dramatically raised his game and looks more like the harry kewell we thought we were buying from leeds, his form since late last year has been fantastically consistent and his attitude also seems spot-on these days. sami has blown his critics into the gutter by proving once again that lack of pace is not an issue for him, he is consistently solid as a rock at the back for us. as for carra well where do i start? the man is a collossus, simple no fuss no frills centre back, gets the job done with ruthless efficiency every time and has got (in the words of pete wylie) a heart as big as liverpool. i have been particularly impressed with crouchie - ok he hasn't exactly been scoring for fun but his contribution to the team is superb, a real team player and has endeared himself to the anfield faithful immediately with his attitude and commitment. however as for our BEST player of the season i would have to say our inspirational captain stevie gerard. now that the chelsea media circus has disappeared he has gone from strength to strength, his impact isn't the same for every game but christ when he is on his game he is UNSTOPPABLE. goals, tackling, inch-perfect passing, leadership and aggression all there in one package. he is surely the player that any team on the planet would take right now if they could afford him, and he would walk into their 1st team straight away. all that, and he's scouse as well.

Carra all the way for me gents.

Our most consistent player of the season. Marshalled the back line with authority and has really matured this year.

Special lifetime achievement award goes to Hamann for being generally superb when played.  :bowdown  :D

Stevie for me. Top-scorer as a midfielder, our captain and best player.

It's been a funny season this year as there hasn't been one player who's stood head and shoulders above everyone else - and thats a good thing.

We've played more as team this season than we have for years. Most improved - Harry Kewell - granted he had lot of improving to do - but in the last 4-5 months he's been one of our best players. Best newcomer - Momo - there's still much room for improvement but he's been influential in midfield.

Pepe Reina was a close runner up, solid as a rock.

Alonso.

Incredible array of passes. Clever, able to spot runs and a killer long ball.

Would be a very welcome addition to any team and by far, Benitez's best signing.

Would like to see him in control of the midfield more often next season.
