Robbie fowler - 1 YEAR CONTRACT TO BE SIGNED NEXT WEEK

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby JC_81 » Fri Apr 14, 2006 4:44 pm

A few weeks back I could understand Benitez saying that he would wait before offering Fowler a new deal.  But now, with CL qualification and 3rd place pretty much in the bag, and if I'm honest, only a slim chance of catching the Mancs with so few games left and them in great form, there is little to play for in the league.  I could see the point in Benitez 'dangling the carrot' as far as a new contract is concerned as it probably gave Robbie that extra bit of motivation which is obviously better for the team, but I no longer see the point seeing as the league games are now less important imo and Robbie is cup-tied for the Chelsea game.

Now I think it's dragging on a bit and if I'm blatantly honest Benitez is starting to irritate me over this whole issue.  A few weeks ago I was sure Benitez would offer Fowler a new deal but I'm starting to have my doubts.  Obviously we don't know what is said between Fowler and Benitez behind closed doors (he might have already told him he's staying), but it looks to me that Benitez is almost taking advantage of the fact that he knows Fowler would do anything to stay at the club.  I don't like seeing this happen and I just think everyone at the club, players and fans alike, would be happier if Benitez just gave him the fecking contract now.

Fowler's performances won't have gone unnoticed by other clubs, and there will be plenty of them sniffing around should Benitez not offer Fowler a deal.  Despite this, I believe that if there is no contract offered Fowler would probably retire.  He doesn't need the money and it's obviously a struggle for him to keep the weight off - I couldn't see him having the motivation to move on to another club and put the effort in every day in training to stay fit enough for top level football.  Fowler himself would maybe see a return to LFC for 6 months and scoring the couple of goals to lift him ahead of Dalglish in the club scoring records as a fitting end to his career.  Looking at it this way I think Benitez could indirectly end Fowler's playing career by not re-signing him.  Come on Rafa, sort it out!!

I think you should go and jump off a cliff.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

It blatantly obvious that fowler should get a new contract, his scoring record of late is among the best any liverpool striker has had since owen jumped ship. I think rafa just wants to get the season out of the way first before he goes public on the situation. I reckon he will give him the contract, he just doesnt want to make it a press issue at this moment in time from what i can see in his interviews. We all know that rafa plays his cards close to his chest and i think once the season has finished they will have a sit down and sort it out :D

I think his new contract is already assured,, especially if he continues this scoring record. I reckon the comments are just rafas way of making him think that he still has to earn the contract, keeping fowler on his toes and playing to the best of his ability for the end of the season

Surely its in the bag?....then again i think its a question of fitness.....maybe rafa is looking at what robbies fitness is like at the end of the 6 months will make the call on it then.....the thing about it is ....if he doesnt resign robbie the player who is brought in and plays instead of him is gonna have a hell of a lot of pressure on his shoulders...and the way nando, cisse and crouchs confidence levels have been up and down this season its gonna be a lot of extra pressure

After another goal, there is no way I can see Rafa letting him go. He is never going to be as fit as he once was but he will always score if given the chance. If Cisses' two chances today fell to Robbie today we would of won 3-0. He is ideal to bring off the bench should we need a goal. GET HIM SIGNED RAFA.:)
From Shankly to Brendan we follow our team, Rome to Istanbul we've all lived the dream. Our journey is long, our goal stays the same, to keep for our children the famous red name.

I think that he'll most definately be offered a contract now after rafa's post match comments and those of Alonso (who me thinks is rafa's right hand man in the team) on the official website.

I want him to stay, but considering Benitez's stance over the Owen situation, I'm not optimistic...  I will be p*ssed off though, if Rafa offloads Robbie, and he ends up going to Bolton or Blackburn...and for what?...so Benitez can bring in some more useless foreigner :censored:, or replace Fowler with Raul..swapping one loyal, industrious crock (as much as I hate to admit it, Robbie is a crock), for a washed up, overrated, Spanish crock..

Morientes needs to be shown the door, for certain though - I don't think I've ever seen a lazier, more nonchalant, player..
the amount of easy chances he misses, is unbelievable..
